Don't you want her ? Why?

If she's a "campaigner for ethnic minorities" then no doubt she'll be campaigning for the illegal "TRNC" wouldn’t you think?

Yes I have to admit, on that issue I am very disappointed with her. I don't think she genuinely believes in it though - she's a populist who quickly backs anything that sounds good whoever is leading the cause. If Cypriot pro-unity groups / lobby groups etc were stronger, I'm certain she'd switch sides in an instant.

Maybe she needs to get a tattoo to remind herself where she really comes from. That's what this clown had to do...

Gosh, look at that fat twat. You'd never catch me pile on pounds like that. :)

People are what they feel, so if she says she’s Turkish and works for Turkish interests by campaigning against the sovereignty of Cyprus then we should accept her as Turkish and remove her from the Cypriot genre.

Geez, I don't like giving up on people... I think she can change. She's confused, needs guidance, needs us to tell her off when she behaves stupidly...

So Meral's a lost cause, a waste of space, the weakest link? Maybe you are right... maybe I'm being too optimistic

Meral Ece is a campaigner for ethnic minorities in the UK and an advisor to Nick Clegg on equality issues. Bravo to her. In this article she talks about her Turkish community and roots which gives many British people reading it the false impression that her roots like in Turkey, in Istanbul or Ankara.

But Meral Ece is not Turkish. She is a Turkish speaking Cypriot from the Larnaca district, her father or grand father was Black possibly originally from Sudan and she is related to Tracey Emin.

Goodness knows why she calls herself Turkish only. She doesn't even say "Turkish Cypriot!" which is very odd.

I have no issue with Turks at all, I have many Turkish friends and have just come back from a holiday where I met some of them in Marmaris but it's such a shame to watch another Cypriot reject her own identity. In Meral's case I think its a clear case of her appealing for Turkish voter support in London. Of course I could be wrong. It is a good political strategy perhaps if that is indeed her aim (I'm not saying it is) but if it is it is not an honourable one in my books.

Leave her alone Seyhan. She has done well. If she feels comfortable the way she feel; then so be it. We cannot all feel the same now, can we?

You cannot praise her on one hand and take her glory away with the other..

So, now you're saying she's fickle, stupid and a hypocrite?

Yet in your first paragraph you stated:

I have always admired women in our community like Meral who enter politics and try to do good, why should it be a man's game!

Yes - if it's good enough for Cypriots who 'feel Greek', why not for this woman?
she's a populist who quickly backs anything that sounds good whoever is leading the cause.

Sounds eminently suited to a political career.
