Many countries have national days, in Cyprus we celebrate the national days of Greece and Turkey, our neighbours. Personally, I have never heard of anything so utterly stupid.
I propose that Cypriots have their own national day. Like Canada which has Canada Day, we could have "Cyprus Day."
This day will be a public holiday.
We'll commemorate the lives of Cypriots who through their commitment to unity through difficult times led the way.
We'll remember Cypriot poets, writers and artists.
We'll play traditional music, faint our faces, dress up, dance and eat.
For tourists, Golifa will be served in small portions, crystallized fruit, rose water will be distributed and samisi / shameshi too. A relaxation of alcohol laws on this day could permit Zivania shots to be sold on every street corner for this day only.
A day date for this could be in June I guess.
What do we think? Is June a good day?
