Cyprus Day

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Cyprus Day

Postby Omer Seyhan » Thu Jun 03, 2010 12:07 am

Many countries have national days, in Cyprus we celebrate the national days of Greece and Turkey, our neighbours. Personally, I have never heard of anything so utterly stupid.

I propose that Cypriots have their own national day. Like Canada which has Canada Day, we could have "Cyprus Day."

This day will be a public holiday.

We'll commemorate the lives of Cypriots who through their commitment to unity through difficult times led the way.

We'll remember Cypriot poets, writers and artists.

We'll play traditional music, faint our faces, dress up, dance and eat.

For tourists, Golifa will be served in small portions, crystallized fruit, rose water will be distributed and samisi / shameshi too. A relaxation of alcohol laws on this day could permit Zivania shots to be sold on every street corner for this day only.

A day date for this could be in June I guess.

What do we think? Is June a good day?

If you really want to help Cyprus, may I propose to insist that the heads of the NG on each side are local people and not Kalamara and Karasakal.

Now that will make a difference.

Anything else is pissing in the wind or shall I say "Kalburunan su tashirsiniz".

National Guard of roc has a Kalamara as its head to this day and TRNC a Durgiyali.

I suppose EOKA day on the 1st April doesn't count as a National Cyprus day then?

I voted for Talat as did most Turkish speaking Cypriots who bother to vote. Most Eroglu voters were settlers with a few die hard nationalist Cypriots who think they are Turkish.

No, we need a brand new start to suit a new Cyprus. Look below how in Canada everybody joins in on Canada Day, Isn't it beautiful?
