If Cypriots could agree on a day to celebrate their own national day we would not be in the situation we are in now...The truth of the mattter is Cypriotism will never take off as long as the status quo continues...What we have is partition along ethnic lines,and there are very influential forces on both sides whose interests coincide with keeping things as they are...Instead of wasting our time on cosmetic symbols we should think of ways to foster trust and understanding which might just lead us to empathy and compassion for each other as human beings...Trying to introduce Cypriot nationalism to counter Greek and Turkish nationalism is like sending boy and girl scouts in fishing boats to break the Israeli seige of Gazza...

Once we solve the issue, we can have this beautiful day you dream of. In the meantime, I make do with small scale "Cyprus days" with some special, dear friends with whom I get together very often these days.
