100% agreed with the poster. now lets forget the political side of things for one minute and maybe you can answer my questions,

1. why do they need to register with the KOA?
2. Can the KOA step in and say stop playing?
3. if the limassol team played a team from nicosia or paphos would people still feel angry about it all?

thanks

Hey Jim, I think KOA needs a functioning league with enough players, venues etc to consider registering it officially. That was what happened with rugby.
Any games played (for the time being) - whether they're part of a registered league or friendly or recreational or whatever played WITHIN the ROC is 100% legitimate. Eg paphos vs limassol, nicosia vs limassol etc.

This whole argument started over the poster.
Limassol agreed to play Famagusta ( a city in the occupied north) in a tournament where the advertised poster mentions that the tournament will be hosted in the illegal 'TRNC'
Limassol agreeing to play means that they RECOGNISE the illegal pseudo state of the 'TRNC'

Now if this tournament was sponsored and promoted by KOA as being played in the ROC (republic of Cyprus) there wouldn't have been a problem.

As of now, the Limassol side is viewed as a 'barbarians' side, agreeing to play a tournament in a pseudo state that nobody recognises apart from Turkey.
They're basically viewed as traitors.

Hi Cap,

ok so its clear there are only two teams so there is no functioning league and so they cannot be registered with the KOA so how do they go about making the games proper?. agreed about the poster it shouldnt have been worded this way however i do know that from reading online that the place in Famagusta is the only place big enough to have a game of hockey as there is no where else in the greek side that can so can we blame them for traveling to Famagusta to play?. i dont think they agreed just to travel to the other side i think maybe they had to if they wanted to play a game. should we just tell them that sorry guys but you should have made do with what we have this side and not to travel?. i dont think it was a tournament they played just a few games from what some other poster said. ok so the poster wasnt a smart thing to do but can we put them down so much?. has anyone contacted anyone from the team to ask why they travelled and why they played a team in the northside?. I will be watching the NHL finals as i have a relative in the US that plays so should be exciting.

thanks

That about sums it up Jim.
We don't have any proper sized venues in the south unfortunately, Northern Cyprus do but is frowned upon... Limassol being desperate to play couldn't have gone to Greece either as Greece being a banana republic with 11 million pop also don't possess a single proper sized ice rink. The closest place after that is Turkey... but of course, that would be out of the question.

The ONLY 3 countries in Europe without a single normal sized icerink:
Cyprus, Greece, Albania.

But what can we do hey? Enjoy the NHL finals dude.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, these are the fruits we reap by molding our society to that of the Greeks.
this is just another tiny testimony.

Neither rink on the island is developed enough to play in full, and the southern one is, as I see, just a circle of ice. The northern one is much larger, but the boards are not proper hockey boards, and its synthetic ice.

Hopefully the teams can concentrate on their goal of playing and developing hockey in the community and on the island, and NOT focus on politics, history, etc.
