What are your fears a GC goverment would do?

In simple terms our fears are that a GC government may persue and impose purely GC desires on us against our will and to our detriment as a community and as indivduals. There are good reasons based in hsitory for such fears unfortunately.

fi, we can't have a normal democratic country in Cyprus now because this would mean that all citizens of this country would enjoy it equally.

The ones that have the power want to use this power to grab a much bigger part of the pie just for themselves by screwing the Greek Cypriots.
The British that have no place in Cyprus are trying to get more power and secure their bases, the TCs that are the 18% want at least 29% land and 50% power, the Turks want their bases also, the Americans want their Echelons etc. Why would all these want something normal in Cyprus that would mean 82% for GCs, 18% for TCs and potentially nothing to the rest?

Hello erolz!! I was replying in a different post and just saw your answer here.

Cyprus in 60s-70s was just a virgin democracy, coming to grips with what it is to be a democracy. Like in most democratic states doing their first steps you can't expect for everything to be rosy. Furthermore the world has changed so much in fourty years. I think you agree that views and stands that were acceptable once now don't have a place in the year 2000.

However I do not agree that GC tried to persue their interests at the expense of TC rights.

Anyway nice hearing your opinions.

Hi Piratis.

Yes it's very frustrating, to say the least, that the British were trying to grab more and secure their bases in a plan that was supposed to "reunite" Cyprus!!! :x

It's an unfair world! :(

And it would also mean that a GC community that has a history of trying to impose _purely_ GC desires on ALL cypriots (let alone use illegal violence against the TC community) would effecitve and sole control of all of Cyprus and all Cypriots without any let or hinderance at all. That's not really my idea of enjoying Cyprus equally. To me that is a case of GC get to enjoy effective sole control of all of Cyprus and all Cypriots and TC get no effective say in the running of their own shared homeland.

Yep the cyprus problem is one caused by everyone trying to steal from GC and nothing at all to do with a GC history of persuing solely GC desires and trying to impose them on all cypriots against their will and regardless of the consequences of such desires on the TC community.

Oh, you want to talk about history again? Lets see about the history of the Turks maybe? Or if I tell you some truths you will start crying again?

Oh really? So when the Turks and the British were imposing their desires for centuries against the desires of the great majority of this island treating us like slaves was OK and they have no fault? And we have the fault because? Because a small group created a coup? Because we suggested a more fair constitution??? Because some conflicts existed in one decade???

Compared to the centuries of oppression that you caused to us (and "you" in this case goes both ways for Erolz since he is British also), what GCs did to TCs is zero.

Piratis,

I am willing to talk about history and how your horrific barbarious Byzantine Empire enslaved Bulgaria for two centuries and how Greece ethnically cleansed all of Aegan Macedonia and Western Thrace from all slavs. Even under horrific ottoman yoke, you greeks who were the only recongized christian minority in that empire, imposed your church on my poor bulgarian compatriots. You had demoralized, brainwashed and taxed them to such an extent that the great Bulgarian historian Paisiy Hilendarski had to exlaim: "O, Bulgar, do not be ashamed to call yourself Bulgarian!". When Solun fell under Greek rule, the Bulgarians at first celebrated to be free, but soon they realized that the greek rule was in fact worst than the turkish one.

Even now Greece is preventing my right of free movement. They refuse to open the Makaza checkoint under the pretext that the migration paths of bears in the region will be interrupted, and I have to travel 100s of km to reach by turkish relatives in Western Thrace, just a few kilometers away. My forefathers owned land and grew tobacco their, and this land is now forever lost. But I will sue Greece, which persistenly refuses my right to reach my ancestral land, when we enter the EU!

Fi we just want to mind our own business and not be dictated by the Greek Cypriots. Besides we want our own share in deciding the future of the Cypriot state. With one man one vote democracy, it is sure that Turks will never be part of the government and will have a very little portion of seats in the parliament. This is something not fair for us, but it is fair for G.Cs, because they accuse us asking for more than 1960 but surprise they want something that is less than 1960! We cannot just pretend nothing had happened in the past 50 or more years! Both sides fought and both sides got hurt. Yet, asking Turkish Cypriots to become a minority in a Greek Cypriot dominated state, which had never ever happened in the history of Cyprus, is simply not related your own understanding of democracy, but it is simply making fun of Turkish Cypriots imo. I won'te be against granting more rights to Greek Cypriots to any plan that will be based on Annan Plan. But we cannot just simply go back and pretend nothing had happened.

You are out of topic, and "out of forum". This forum is about the Cyprus problem, not any problems that Bulgarians have with Greeks.
In any case, as you admited the Bulgarians sympathize a lot more with Greeks and Greek Cypriots. If the Byzantines were so bad to them as you claim, then apparently the Turks have been way worst. (Is it the Turks that created an alphabet for you based on the Greek alphabet?)

You talk in this way because you are Turk. Bulgarians are our friends!

But we cannot just simply go back and pretend nothing had happened.

Ok, so I guess we should be preparing for our revenge for the invasion and the human right violations you caused to us?
If you are not willing to forgive the 1/100th damage that we caused to you, then why we should forgive the 100 times more damage you caused to us?
