Very regrettable when such happens to innocent people. Though I would imagine there was something more to it than his presence in the university. Plenty of Arabs study at every university, just as there is a sizable Arab presence in the Knesset. In any event, unfortunate for your friend's family.

Do you mean a bit like the TCs behaved, in 1974?

Kind words, but as they point out, and what we see, there is an ongoing policy of intimidation by the zealots to 'force' these people out of their homeland and to encourage more settlers in.

They were duped by the partitionists. The GC right wing did not help either.

"Duped" by the partitionists? Or, were the majority of TCs pro-partition anyway? Certainly many were preparing for this partition for a long time.

Dont kid yourself O. Many had not the faintest idea what partition entailed. Those that did, wanted it by peaceful means (This was to counter your then demands of Enosis.) and NEVER by war.

So some were either too stupid to realise they would end up, as now, even more of a minority and with compromised rights; and the others wanted half of Cyprus offered to them on a plate, without the need to fight?

Refrain from putting words into my mouth Oracle. They cannot be stupid if the full facts were not presented to them. I shall say this for the last time. They wanted a negotiated settlement. This was not forthcoming so the few hotheads at the top of the leadership took matters into their own hands.
The ordinary people were and still are unhappy about the situation but since the rejection of the various settlement planse have given up of any settlement. Thanks to your lot. Some like myself still ha hope but ..... how long do you think that will be effective. We are a becoming a minority.

Back to Azrail.

I just heard on the television that the Prime Minister of Turkey said in parliament today that the next flotilla to Gaza will very likely be accompanied by a Turkish warship.

An interesting and surprising take on this can be found below:

But why do the Turks have the “Palestine fetish” even though most of them can’t point the Palestinian territories out on a map? Why did they not raise a finger when, for instance, the mullahs killed dissident Iranian Muslims? Why did the Turks not raise a finger when non-Muslim occupying forces killed a million Iraqi Muslims? Why did we not hear one single Turkish voice protesting the deaths of 300,000 Muslims in Darfur? Where were all these Turkish protestors when Israel was bombing Lebanon or when the Chinese police were using disproportionate force against their ethnic kin, the Uighurs?
