Turkey's shift spurs concern on Capitol Hill

One of the harshest attacks came from the Republican House leadership.

"The complicity of Turkey in launching a flotilla to challenge the blockade in Gaza, the ensuing violence that occurred, the grievous loss of life is deeply troubling to those of us who have supported the U.S. Turkish alliance in the past," Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee who heads the House Republican Conference, said on the House floor.

Ally Turkey comes under increasing criticism from some lawmakers
By Kevin Bogardus - 06/13/10 08:05 PM ET

snippet below:

In turn, Turkey, often lauded for its Western-style democracy and strong military ties to the United States, has come under attack from members of Congress. Many have suggested that the country is not the strong U.S. ally that they expected, even implying that it may be America’s enemy now.

It is a marked shift from months ago when several lawmakers came to the defense of Turkey when they were lobbying against a non-binding congressional resolution that would recognize the Ottoman Empire’s World War I-era killing of 1.5 million Armenians as genocide. The flotilla incident, along with Turkey’s vote last week against a new round of United Nations sanctions against Iran, have many in Congress moving against Turkey.

Child ‘terrorists’ paying with their lives in Turkey’s prisons

ISTANBUL // Abdullah says he is innocent. The police say the 14-year-old boy threw stones at security forces during a demonstration in support of Kurdish rebels in the southern Turkish city of Adana last December. Turkey’s judiciary says Abdullah is a terrorist.

The boy has been sentenced to just under five years in prison for supporting the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, a rebel group that has been fighting against the Turkish state since 1984, and for spreading PKK propaganda.

Abbas Secretly Backing Gaza Blockade

Not only Abbas but Egypt too. Its an Israeli-Egyptian blockade after all. No one wants an extremest organization like Hamas recruiting more people to violence. Egypt is particularly concerned fearing a spill-over effect. You see, no one wants a Hamas style militancy on their territory. Except well, for you. And if Abbas is secretly backing the Gaza blockade ... it is because he doesn't want a split between Gaza and the West Bank ...see Pakistan/ Bangladesh. That and Hamas ruthlessly killed Abbas supporters a few years back. I was going to go into more detail but its just going to go over your head. I know, this is all complicated for an ignoramus like yourself.

Turkey threatens diplomatic break with Israel over raid

Monday, 5 July 2010 13:03 UK

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/10505386.stm

Turkey has for the first time threatened to break diplomatic ties with Israel over its raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla in May.

Turkey's foreign minister said a break could only be averted if Israel either apologised or accepted the outcome of an international inquiry into the raid.

The Israeli government said it had nothing to apologise for.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Tuesday strongly criticized Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman's refusal to apologize over the flotilla crisis.

The blockade is primarily to stop Hamas from gaining the upper hand and to eventualy instill in Hamas's supporters that this terrorist fanatical group spells disaster for the region. Heavily supported by the enemies of the West , AlQueda , Islamists and GR.
