Shifting Balance ???

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Oracle » Sat Jun 05, 2010 10:49 pm

If any groups are going to operate out of Cyprus, then they should be concerned with "Freeing Cyprus". After all, our need is no less than that of Gaza. I'll bet there are no "Free Cyprus" pressure groups operating over there.

I am fed up with all these hypocrites Deniz. And what about the Rachel Corrie? Is that another conspiracy by Turkey? We have been talking about morality and ethics since 1974. Suddenly we discover "vital interests" and we wash our hands. Then we force activists from across Europe to use the illegal ports of northern Cyprus in order to demonstrate their support for the Palestinian people. In the not so distant past, small ships left Cyprus for Gaza and one of them was even ramped by an Israeli warship. This time we decided to turn our back on the Palestinians who are in danger of becoming victims of genocide. Our government told us that if we did allow ships to leave from our ports there was a risk Israel would allow its ships to do the Haifa - Famagusta trip. Our eurorepresentative, Mrs Theocharous did not get on a ship because sghe was informed that members of MIT would be on the ships too. The average bananiot believed her! A perfect excuse to wash our hands.

Until very recently Turkey followed a different policy on the Palestinian issue. Now it has changed. Whatever the reasons for this change, we should commend Turkey for this.

So Cyprus' decades of support for the Palestinian and Lebanese plights is now worthless but Turkey's “interest” in the Palestinians which began sometime in 2008 should be commended? Image

You can be so full of shit!

Bananiot, can you not see the obvious power play unfolding between Turkey and Israel?

Is it wise for Cyprus to get involved in this aspect of their game?

Cyprus and Greece have given and are continuing to give a lot to the Palestinians. Which was recognised by Arafat when he said simply "thank you, thank you, thank you" when he had visited Athens. And the help to the Palestinians from Greece and Cyprus has been going on for decades, a momentary show now would not change a thing. The Palestinians know very well what they receive and from whom and at what cost.

Nikitas and GR, take the blinker off for a change. Your antiturkishness clouds your judgment so much that anything Turkey does is wrong. I cannot go along with this stereotype behaviour of yours. I am sure Turkey, just like anybody else, is capable of doing the right thing. The obvious power play unfolding between Israel and Turkey, as you claim Nikitas, means, I suppose, that we should now revert to the role of the "skillful neutral" and wait to see what will come out of this new situation, which could be of interest for our issue and if came to a achieving a significant gain at the end of the day, the Palestinians can go to hell. I can just see GR hosting an Israeli flag outside his house.

Birkibrisli, the government did not shed any light on what these "vital interests" as they called them, were. Some thought that it was the hydrocarbons discovered in an area that overlaps the Cypriot and Israeli EEZ. The government rejected this allegation. It is worth noting that for the first time in the history of the RoC, government and ALL opposition parties agreed on this one!
