Government spokesman Stefanos Stefanou said on Friday that Cyprus President Dimitris Christofias launched the initiative in cooperation with Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou. Stefanou says Cypriot Foreign Minister Markos Kyprianou is already in Israel for meetings with officials there including his counterpart Avigdor Lieberman. Kyprianou will also meet with Palestinian Authority officials.
Greece and Cyprus have been consistent with regard to the Palestinian problem.
What amazes me...
The Turks knew about the Palestinian occupation prior to forming a military alliance with the Israeli state. So what changed now? Well, now Ankara no longer has unresolved territorial problems with Syria or Iraq. Turkey's goal now is reasserting regional dominance and looking to reclaim lost power of the Ottoman Empire. No longer claiming to be a bridge between East and west....instead, it seeks to be a leader of the Islamic world. And what a great way to do it by bashing Israel every chance it gets.
No more budding alliance....the Turks no longer require the Jewish lobby in the United States.
And now we see Israelis holding placards protesting against the occupation of Cyprus:
It really is a funny world!
