I've been several times to Gaza and it is without doubt the most miserable place that I've had the misfortune of visiting because it is, as many have said before, an open prison for 1.5 million people. It is a prison insofar as every last matter depends on the whim and mood of the gaolers i.e, Israel (and Egypt, in cahoots with Israel).

And what do you mean "they've never given it a try ?" Since 1956 Gaza had been under Israeli occupation and/or strangulation. It is a matter of despair that your sheer ignorance has led to such a carelessness for the well-being one and half million people.

You're wrong. Check your data - Israel reluctantly took over Gaza in 1967. It was under Egyptian rule before.

Of course it is a miserable pisshole. Especially now. Life for the average Gazan was surpassingly better before they were fool enough to launch their intifadas. Thousands were employed in Israel. However, they developed a taste for murdering their bosses and co-workers, so, no more employment. They've themselves to blame for that, and for electing the Hamas government.

When the Ayatollah Khomeini made his famous speech in which he declared that "Zionism, as with Communism and Naziism would vanish from the pages of history with the passage of time", the world's statesmen condemned him and his regime.

It later suited the cause of 'Anti Iranian Propogandists' to attribute the Ayatollah's remarks to the new President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and much capital was gained ( in convincing the ever gullible public) by subjecting the President to ridicule and derision when the truth of the matter was (and is) his refusal to capitulate to the whim of the Western Powers in regard to Iran's 'Nuclear Development programme'.

It was later proven that neither the Ayatollah nor the President had ever indicated that they would 'Wipe Israel off the face of the map' but by the time the proof was there to be seen, the political damage had been done and to this day, no amount of explanation can erase the memory of the 'Politically Invented Quotation'.

Strangely enough, the ONLY nation that has (recently in historical terms) been 'Wiped off the face of the map' is Palestine, how strange that it should be Israel that has done the wiping.

Perhaps one should consider the probability that there will NEVER be peace on the face of the earth whilst Israel exists, certainly there is much Israeli influence in the halls of power worldwide, one wonders what plans the Israeli's have for Cyprus ?, there does seem to be a lot of interest in the occupied lands here.
