When Ataturk got rid of the Arabic script, he had a sensible argument. A word would have three different meanings, depending on whether it was a pure Turkish word, Arabic or Farsi; add to that borrowed European words too. It would cause havoc in anyones education. Even if you read Atatürk's Büyük Nutuk in its original language, you would not have understood a fraction of it.
