I donnot want to hjqck this thread so I will keep this brief, and ask the question how would you like our to languages to be mixed as they were becmng before all this shit when I speak to people in turkey there are words that they do not understand at all, I am sure that is the same for the gcs ( am I wrong) so can we produce a new mixed language and there a true Cypriot identity what do you guys say?

The differences in the Cypriot Greek dialect from other Greek dialects is not due to the mixing with Turkish. Mainland Greece and most other Greek islands have been under Ottoman rule for longer than Cyprus did. They also adopted several Turkish words in the same way that Turkish language took several Greeks words.

that does not answer my question, but then again you did not answer my questions in the other thread. You are undoubtably a smart guy that is not in question so why do you avoid the questions I ask?

I was not answering your question. I was just correcting some misconception that you possibly have.

To answer your question: Languages are "living" things and they keep evolving. Languages should be allowed to evolve by themselves naturally. If the population of Cyprus is mixed again then it will be natural that some elements from one language can flow to another. The how much this will be done is not something we can predict and it is not something we should force with policies and laws.

So what do you say about a new mixed Cypriot language?

I already answered DTA. Any mixing will come naturally and gradually.

What do you suggest to do? For the government to create some new language using half Greek and half Turkish and then force everybody to start speaking this language?

The thing is I can not really argue against your point, but the fact remains that on both sides there is a distrust of thebother side so what do we do? (and please know that both tcs and gcs are at least equaly responsible for the state that we are in- even if we staryedtws it in 58 - when the slate was wiped clean in 60 you guys were responsible, so let's leave that, what can we do now? And please remember that we although not recognised have our own state so compromise will be required on both side otherwiseve will be forever stuck where we are. Meaning on a personal level you will not get your lands in the north and my family not getting mu lands I. The south.

Tim Drayton is already posting under a different nick to save face. He should apologise to those he labelled 'racist'.

He did lose the plot lately.

Anyway, stupid threads like this should be in General Chat!

OK Mr Cockpit, just 'cos you've proved you're a pilot, no need to get ideas above your station. What's Tim's new nick, then? I must have missed it.

You are as good or is it bad as a Somalian Pirate DTA. Never mind. In the event of unification there will be a convergence of our languages eventually. We already have a good ear for Grec-Cyp and Turco-Cyp so it will not be difficult. I see there is also a keen interest from both sides learning each others lingo. This is encouraging. No need to invent another. We can all be multi-linguists like Tim........and where the heck is he?

He settled in Lurucina where the True Cypriots are. What Cypriots have to do is make sure all children learn both languages at school. Turkish should be made compulsory in RoC and Greek in TRNC. There will be a hell of a lot more understanding between the communities. But and there is a big but, so long as economic suffocation continues, you cannot even begin, as well as the longer it lasts the more difficult it becomes. People will not want to unite. That point is fast approaching. We don't have limitless time.
