UN CLARIFIES CONFUSION OVER SECURITY COUNCIL REFERENCE

Postby halil » Thu May 27, 2010 7:08 pm

The UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon’s message read out by his special advisor Alexander Downer during yesterday’s meeting between the two leaders has sparked some criticism. Criticisms were voiced because of the word “relevant” was missing in the message.

The UN clarified today the confusion in the message over reference to the Security Council Resolutions.
Diaz told Bayrak Television that the UN Chief had referred to the relevant Security Council resolutions and not all Security Council resolutions.
In a statement to the BRT, UN Spokesman Jose Diaz said that the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon had meant that he had been encouraged by the agreement reached between the leaders to resume the talks on the basis of relevant Security Council resolutions and not all Security Council resolutions.

He also pointed out that the UN Chief had referred to the UN Security Council resolutions as such in his latest UN Security Council report.

“As you can see this is the term we always use and most recently in the latest UN Secretary General’s report on the Cyprus negotiations, published last week” Diaz added.

“OBJECTIVE IS TO TAKE THE PROCESS FORWARD”

President Dervis Eroglu’s Special Representative for Negotiations has defined the Turkish Cypriot Side’s goal as to take the solution process forward within the framework of the United Nations parameters and to bring it to a conclusion once the Greek Cypriot Side acts in the same direction. Evaluating the negotiations process to the TAK News Agency,

Kudret Ozersay said President Eroglu and the Greek Cypriot Leader Demetris Christofias made a good start in general on Wednesday.

On the issue of single sovereignty, he said that what really matters is how these concepts will be defined and added that the issue will remain subject to discussions.

As for the Property issue, he said that the two sides confirmed the convergence paper on the topic and agreed to work for further convergence.

Referring to the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon’s message read out during the first meeting between the two leaders, Ozersay said there had been some politically-motivated interpretations on that but pointed out that the issue was clarified by the UN itself.

Ban’s message brought some criticisms for making reference to all UN resolutions for the solution of the Cyprus problem, missing the word “relevant”.

Yesterday, the Spokesperson for the UN Peace-keeping Force in Cyprus Jose Diaz told BRT Mr. Ban expressed his encouragement over seeing the leaders resume negotiations on the basis of relevant Security Council resolutions and not all Security Council resolutions.

halil, would you care to clarify why the above, utterly pointless paragraph merited being highlighted in blue?

While the above equally pointless paragraph merited red?

And then perhaps you might explain why you felt it necessary to post this incoherent, irrelevant piece of non-news, as a whole.

I usually understand the reasoning behind most of your crude bayrak propaganda but this time you've foxed even someone as skilled in the dark arts as I.

Some people just like 'colouring things in' Malapapa - I suspect it harks back to childhood and the thrill of getting colouring books and crayons for pressies!

As adults they seem to think it ADDS WEIGHT to their argument - baffles me.

However, am I alone in being really bored by reading about sodding Ban Ki Moon?

Moon about describes his moon face and he has to be one of the most boring and uncharismatic public figures in existence.

I'm hoping we won't hear about or from him much again if the Cy Prob does get solved!

I wouldn't mind so much but halil has no discernable argument to add weight to.

That proves it.
