Cyprus entry for Eurovision

Postby Gasman » Thu May 27, 2010 11:31 am

Cyprus' entry will be performed by Welsh singer Jon Lilygreen.

And sung in English.

Apparently, the rules state that only songwriters who have Cypriot origin or who have resided in the island for at least two years could take part. But the winning performer Jon Lilygreen is British, living in Newport. So I guess the 'writers' have some drop of Cypriot blood in them?

Just been watching him on TV. At least he was singing in front of a huge CYPRIOT flag - not a Greek one in sight.

Couldn't Cyprus find one Cypriot singer on the whole of the island to represent them?

Well apparently this is not news. But it was to me because I don't have interest in the Euro Song stuff. Just that this morning on RIK2 they were showing lots of schoolchildren from the Greek School, singing with a visiting band and I couldn't help notice the ENORMOUS Cypriot flag in the background and no accompanying Greek one. Then at the end of the prog. the singer was encouraging people to get on facebook and spread the word about voting for Cyprus. So I googled it!

Yes Cap. I get used to seeing both flying alongside each other - or sometimes just the Greek flag!

This was a Cypriot flag big enough to cover the wall behind them. It caught my attention.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the day we stop worshiping those Greeks and our northern kinsfolk stop bowing down to their almighty gods the Turks, WE as a nation, possessing massive untapped potential can reach greater heights and achieve greater things.

Flying a Greek flag probably won't go down too well, especially with the Germans.
