See, this is why I tell everyone the Mediterranean diet is akin to vegetarian and has only been contaminated recently due to these meat loving Brits!

O, I am told by the old village folks around Paphos that only until recently meat was only consumed on special occasions and feasts. They would sometimes go for months without eating meat. Animals were keps for their milk and work force.

Absolutely!

This ties in with what my mother tells me.

They ate beans, bread, potatoes, other vegetables in season, and fruit and once in a blue moon (Xmas and Easter) would eat some meat!

We have been contaminated ....

The thing is, most of us are Blood Group "A" (natural vegetarians) whereas the meat-sucking savage Brits are mostly Blood Group "O".

No haggis for you then...

Idiot! We invented it. With a dollop of Greek Yogurt on top! :D

You just called me an idiot! That was uncalled for.

Tell me why it has not got a Greek name ?

Moukentra!

[Blooming thieving idiot Turks!]

Where did I claim that it was Turkish? I suppose we will go down the same road as 'Dolmades'.

Yes Mujadara is an Arabic dish used in all Arab countries. This is made of rice, lentils and onions yummy yummy. I know this is well used by poor people as this has lots of vitamins in it to replace meat.
Unsure what is the meaning of the word mujadara but I think is come from "Mujader" which means BUBBLES.

If you apologise, I may call this a 'draw'.  (I am in a generous mood) - if not it is an Arabic dish.

Never heard of 'veggie haggis'. What do they encase it in? Old stockings? I am surprised to hear that Cypriots used to eat hardly any meat. They are certainly making up for it now.
