What on earth do the Turkish Troops have to do with the question? He won't be visiting the North will he? Oh, wait a minute - of course they have to be mentioned, whatever the subject matter!

apc - a website has been created to mark this 'historic' visit:

http://www.papalvisit.org.cy/cgibin/hweb?-V=index&_FAA=1&-dindex.html&_VLANGUAGE=en

Perhaps you can get answers to your question on there.

I doubt whether someone as 'famous' as the Pope ever pays for flights, accommodation etc. Businesses are usually only too glad of the publicity.

And as our glorious President C invited the Pope - I guess it will be the RoC who will be paying for everything.

More millions of euros that could have gone towards ridding the island of this:

You need to stop producing so much, then it won't bother you!

Typical 'Greek' attitude towards this disgusting practice. It's because people like you don't see 'anything wrong' with overflowing litterbins of shitty bog roll in restaurant and other public building loos - that it has persisted so long.

You probably are not offended by all the plastic bags, water bottles, fag packets and coke cans littering the streets of Cyprus either.

Oh, wait a minute - you hardly ever walk the streets of Cyprus do you? You certainly have no idea about current conditions here - going by the rubbish you spout about it.

apc - I keep reading that the Papal visit to the UK is estimated to be going to cost circa £15 million! Dunno if that's any pointer to the cost of his visit here.

Oh well it will be another sort of 'claim to fame' I suppose - first EU country to have a communist President, only divided capital city, now first pope blah blah. Something to add to the only other claim to fame - halloumi!

We don't have this problem at our place in Polis. I suggest you spend some money and upgrade your system if you do keep blocking it .... or wise up to this practical joke GCs play on idiot foreigners

Might have known you'd have a place in the British Protectorate of Polis on Cyprus. No wonder your knowledge of the Island is so limited and wrong.

Obviously what I've suspected about you is true - that YOU NEVER TRAVEL AROUND THE ISLAND.

I am not talking about whether people are offended by the sight of their own shit or used bog roll - I am speaking about loos in Airports, restaurants (even smart ones) bars, cafes, public loos. Where it is OTHER PEOPLE'S SHITTY BOG ROLL you are confronted with.

Or do you hang on til you get home everytime. And, if you ever venture outside your Brit outpost - take them all back to your place for a flush!

It is the impression it makes on VISITORS to the island I am concerned with. It is third world and shocking to those who had no idea (it is hardly mentioned in travel bumph).

Now - as you are so fond of spouting about Cyprus appealing to the MORE DISCERNING visitor ... ?

So, as you so often defend this practice, I must assume your take on this 'problem' (because it is a problem - and especially to proprietors of establishments in busy tourist areas where visitors IGNORE the signs - they are the ones who end up swabbing up the results after the ensuing blockages) is that IT IS NOT A PROBLEM AT ALL and that there IS NOTHING WRONG WITH HAVING TO DO THIS in 2010 in what you are fond of calling 'a modern European country'.

Nothing wrong with flying into swish new LCA airport with its modern sculptures and clean lines and lovely landscaped surroundings - to then be confronted by that sign in the loos? Well you probably never have to venture as far as LCA - fly to Paphos and head for your ex pat Brit enclave.

You probably think the designer of that sign deserves an award.

Maybe the restaurants can feed shitty bog rolls to the hordes of dumpster diving backpackers who will flood Cyprus once CYair drops its air fares to €5.
