Kurdish children jailed in Turkey

Check the BBC video here:

More than 340 children in the Kurdish south-east of Turkey have been given long prison sentences in the past three years.

Most of them were detained for taking part in anti-government protests, under a law banning any show of support for the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party, or PKK.

The government says it knows the law, which requires a minimum five-year sentence, is too harsh, but it has yet to change it.

Jonathan Head reports from Istanbul.

Has the BBC talked to Tim about this...after all, he is the one with the deep, expert knowledge of Turkey and not some stupid foreigner that knows nothing.

Tim, whats your take on all this? Greece can't balance a budget, gotcha.

Tim is fearful for his life! He knows he can't speak a word against Turkey!

The take home messages from this news, to all the "good neighbours of Turkey" ... (1) You will accept "cultural repression"; and, (2) you will be jailed from the cot for protesting "against the Turkish State".

Lead on enlightened Expansionist Turkey with your world changing policies ... The EU liberals could do with a little of your treatment!

Insulting Turkishness is a crime. I'm sure Tim is aware of this and where ever he may be...he is praising Ataturk and uh reminding everyone how Greeks cant balance a budget, oh and how the bailout gives every family in Greece over 50,000 euros. Be safe, Tim. We miss you!

It's considered very bad form on internet forums - to post stuff about people who are not around to respond. But I suppose they are considered 'easy' targets.

Turks Let Kurdish Forests Burn

Wednesday, 14 July 2010, 12:52 pm
Press Release: Patrick Mac Manus

Jake Hess
SIRNAK, Turkey, Jul 13 (IPS) - The Turkish General Directorate of Forestry claims to devote the bulk of its resources to combating forest fires, but it is passively observing the Turkish army ignite forested areas in the country's predominantly Kurdish southeastern region.
Residents of Ikizce and Toptepe, Kurdish villages in Sirnak province not far from the Iraqi border, tell IPS that they're facing economic disaster and possibly displacement as Turkish soldiers set fire to their forests and crops.
