The Greek Cypriot Side – which does not hesitate to show its intransigent attitude at every opportunity, is continuing investing in armaments. It is preparing to equip the Greek Cypriot National Guard with a new system, which includes more than 400 new military vehicles of all types and 41 modern tanks.
The news came just days before the resumption of the Cyprus negotiation process between the two sides on the island.
The Greek Cypriot Minister of Defence Costas Papakostas told a press conference that a large portion of the new system to be brought will arrive in South Cyprus within the year.
He said that three new helicopters for search and rescue purposes will also be purchased with the aim of strengthening the opportunities to protect “their sovereignty rights over the Nicosia Flight Information Region”.
Meanwhile, the Greek Cypriot Administration is also preparing to realise the Argonaftis 2010 exercises between the 25th and 28th of May.
The Greek Cypriot press reports that the exercises will take place at water, air and land area between Larnaca, Limassol and Paphos.
