GREEK CYPRIOT ARMAMENT EFFORTS

Postby halil » Fri May 21, 2010 2:56 pm

The Greek Cypriot Side – which does not hesitate to show its intransigent attitude at every opportunity, is continuing investing in armaments. It is preparing to equip the Greek Cypriot National Guard with a new system, which includes more than 400 new military vehicles of all types and 41 modern tanks.

The news came just days before the resumption of the Cyprus negotiation process between the two sides on the island.

The Greek Cypriot Minister of Defence Costas Papakostas told a press conference that a large portion of the new system to be brought will arrive in South Cyprus within the year.

He said that three new helicopters for search and rescue purposes will also be purchased with the aim of strengthening the opportunities to protect “their sovereignty rights over the Nicosia Flight Information Region”.

Meanwhile, the Greek Cypriot Administration is also preparing to realise the Argonaftis 2010 exercises between the 25th and 28th of May.

The Greek Cypriot press reports that the exercises will take place at water, air and land area between Larnaca, Limassol and Paphos.

Shame they are not doing it near Girne. We could have done with a few new ships.

I don't think we can be accused much when one of the world's largest standing armies is 45 miles away. Especially when they do mock bombing runs on Paphos airstrip and a guardpost I was at. This is ancient history now, I don't know what's happening now but you get my drift.
Oh and they have 40,000 soldiers stationed here too.

You don't understand the military mind. They are trying to make the training as real as possible. What have you got against that?

Not that different to what the GCNG do during Nigofrostos. They park their tanks at the border and fire into the roc to frighten the Lurucadis. One of these days they'll get a few yfred special real ones and they want know who they came from.

These Turkish barbarians keep invading our island for centuries and keep bringing their settlers here trying to Turkify our island and then they complain because we want to defend ourselves from their aggression
