HELP (2)

Postby Svetlana » Tue May 18, 2010 4:41 pm

Can anyone advise me about my mobile phone connection, please?

I have received a SMS from 'cybee data' to say that I have 'exceeded 10MB' whatever that means.

The status bar at the top of the phone shows a '3G' icon, with no explanation in the on screen help as to what this means. Am I being charged for a connection all the time the '3G' icon is displayed?

There is a 'data Connection' option, under 'Settings' which seems to trun itself on every so often...

I am very confused and concerned about a large 'phone bill'.

disable your 3G. from your phone settings. Your being charged because most automatic programs like weather widgets use the 3G connectivity

That’s the price you pay when you buy a useless brick for a phone with dozens of “features” you’ll never need, all designed to empty your pockets!

But I do need 'all those features'. You never know you might need to know the annual cocoanut production of the Seychelles - easy for me - at the click of a button. Mind you, it is not very good at making 'phone calls... :-(

There seems no way to disable 3G.

If you are not using 3G then you should disable it anyways. First of all with 3G you get less standby time and less talk time. (see bottom of specs here: http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_hd2-2957.php) Secondly reception can actually be worst with 3G in many places in Cyprus. (and I a talking about the areas where 3G is available). So if you are not using the internet and you don't need all those widgets that auto update like weather then you should disable both 3G and GPRS. (if you just disable 3G then probably your phone will connect with GPRS and you will be paying anyway). Here is how to do it on your specific phone: http://www.htc.com/au/faqs.aspx?p_id=29 ... &id=118112 But if you need all those widgets that auto update then get used to pay several euro every month for them ... you are rich so not a big deal for you ;) There is no much point in having such a phone and not having internet.
