More to the point what is his acceptable casualty figures this week. Has he applied an inflationary percentage to them or are they still 20,000?

Do these figures cover the GC casualties only???
If it covers the TCs and the settlers as well, they must go up as the settler numbers go through the roof...

I sympathize with your sentiments and will not argue with you GR But the problem with G.C.s and mainland Greeks has always been the fact that they expect others to fight their wars for them. You were foolish enough to believe that Turkish army would be stopped by either

a) the United nations
b) British
c) Greece
c) Americans

... as was always the case in smaller clashes before 1974. But what a BIG MISTAKE it was!

EOKA B fools behaved like spoiled dogs and went too far endangering the internationally recognized Republic and its existence.

Trust me GR! Any attempt to wipe out anything Turkish, North of the line and there will be no GCs left in the South next time. I would like to see which EU member will risk war with Turkey over 6 sq ft of South Cyprus! They did not chance it when Turkiye was weak militarily and economically, I doubt they will chance it now!

I suggest you cut down on war cries, and recognize the existence of the TCs FOREVER, north of this island. You do not - and we shall discuss the same issues 20 years from now in our wheel chairs...

Is the link to the article to highlight acquisition of new equipment? Or (as the title says - 'Closing in on draft dodgers'?

I remember there was a lot of noise and publicity about Cyprus 'closing in on draft dodgers' more than 3 yrs ago.

It's a small population and, if TWENTY PERCENT of all conscriptees are dodging it by claiming mental health problems - that is a very high proportion of the population with mental illness isn't it?

Isn't this what history proves? Since 1974, although we lost 1/3rd of our land, 50% of our resources and coastline and we had to feed and house 100s of thousands of refugees, we still managed to transform Cyprus from a poor colony to a democratic country with standards approaching those of western Europe.

Imagine what we could do if we were not constantly invaded, oppressed and enslaved by foreign Imperialists who created (and continue to create) so many problems for us.

Nikitas wrote:Sveral posters have mentioned the brilliance of Turkish foreign minister Davutoglu and see him as a source of hope due to his enlightened views.

Well these are excerpts from Mr Davutoglu's book, recently translated into Greek, title Strategic Depth.

"Cyprus is a stable base, an air craft carrier able to control the Persian Gulg, the Caspian Sea region and the sea lanes of Aden and Hormuz.... geopolitically and geostrategically Turkey must control Cyprus even if there were not a single Moslem on the island".

"Turkey must be ready to respond with the necessary toughness to anyone who threatens its strateigc objective".

And what are these strategic objectives? In the book Davutoglu describes the future Turkey as an islamic nation, which mobilizes the remnants of Ottomans in Balkan countries towards changes that "cannot exclude any possibility" and proposes a peaceful displacement of Greece in the Aegean.

First we had Taksim and Enosis of the north in Cyprus. Now we see Megali Idea being promoted by the Turkish FM who wants to reinstate Turkish influence in its former imperial colonies. Now, this is a guy that some consider enlightened. Saints preserve us from those that are not!

Just give them 4-5 years and then they will realize what "aggouri" is the geopolitical plans by a third world country....
