I expect Yfred has upset you......again   He's an expert on matters financial, he, being Yfred might have the answer.

Perhaps so many forumers 'owe' money and puts them off reading your thread. :?

g'day deniz...i was bumping the thread...

maybe you can answer me...who is liable for the debts to turkey for the occupied the last 36 odd years, coz according to iceman they are all loans...and loans usually get paid...

G'day mate!!
If as you say this is true. then , as we say in Turkish, 'boku yedik'.
That means Turkey is there to stay to Kingdom come. .....I hope that wont be necessary or become true.

Otherwise I have no idea. Sorry.

i think this should be part of the negotiating process coz the way i see it if these loans are to be called back after any negotiation, is gonna be detrimental to the newly formed economy having reprocussions far beyond any scale imaginable...

I think Turkey would clean the slate and forget about it. Or is that wishful thinking.
Then the north could charge the TA for providing R%R for them + training facilities.

Well in that case, if anyone thought Greece had a large debt per capita....

Worry about that problem when we come to it - silly loan evaluators - this is better than sub-prime then.

Mention of Greece nothing to do with taking a swing at her, only that she is in the news with a major debt problem and a relative comparison being TCs would be in a significantly worse situation.
Apologies for not being clearer.

here you go...the germans now will have to work an extra 2 hrs per day so the greeks can sunbath an extra 2 per day...

I would also would have been pissed off....

never the less doesn't explain the debt owed to turkey by the tcs now does it...

further more the greek loans will get paid off, can you say the same for the tcs?... and who will pay it off?...as it comes to probably to more than 25 billion?...and having no assets?...

unless ofcourse you are banking on a solution as the asset...

What iceman said about the moneys coming from Turkey is true. All the money injected into the TC budget is recorded as a debt. I don't expect Turkey would ever call them in though.

umit why then is recorded as a debt if it's not goung to be called then...if that was the case then it should berecordered as a donation...

there is a reason why it is recorded as a debt coz debts sooner or later are called in...

the annan plan didn't mention this in any way...somehow i think the debt will be called in some way if there is a unification...

also i am a believer during these negotiations, actually in any negotiations loose ends shpuld be addressed, just so they don't pop their ugly head down the track...

just say for arguments sake they are called in, and there is a good chance they would, after the negotiations end, who is responciblle for theses debts?...who and how would they get paid when the ammount so far will enormous?...

i say a strong chance they will be called in coz during the annan plan they weren't mentioned...turkey if she was going to wipe them, she would have said so to score points...but she didn't...

Its just like the debts of African countries to European nations. This ran into many millions. They were all 'forgiven' (There must be a better word to describe this).

Turkey was in a similar position after the collapse of the Ottoman empire. They not only had huge debts but special trading privileges (called Capitulations) namely with France. These agreements were binding contacts that were renounced with the treaty of Lausanne. With the ottoman debt, Turkey ended up paying for less than half of it.

I don't think we'll get close enough to an agreement to even make this issue a stumbling block.
