A car full of young boys had driven past and had thrown eggs at them and their children, the management was very hesitant about calling the police and told the guests that there was no need to report it. A year ago a young lady (tourist) in another hotel i worked in reported that a cypriot man attacked her and tried to rape her, the police came and took a statement and talking in greek they said they knew who he was and that they couldn't do anything. In yet another Hotel i have previously worked in a lady came to reception to report that the room service boy had come into her room and raped her. The management told her and her husband (who had been at the bar all night) that she was too drunk and that this could not have happened and sent away, although the next day the boy was fired. my point is that most cases are not reported, nor taken seriously by the local authorities. These are all very upper class hotels that i have worked in and the assistance given to tourists with problems is not helpful at all.

Nooooooooooo, not the roc justice system. How dare you say that? Clean your mouth with soap please.

Not that different to the sudanese girl who got attacked by 50 students and she got taken to police station and not the attackers.

Kindly stop Sniping.

not like the "trnc" police that take you to the back room and beat you to death either.

That's a terrible thing to say!
The TRNC police haven't beaten anybody to death for ages.

Does,nt most of Cyprus picks what laws it wants to follow and those it does,nt intend to? EU or not.

So IF that is the case, if many Cypriots don,t follow its own rules and laws why in hells name should anyone else?

Hunters illegal or not in Cyprus or anywhere else, are absolute tossers.

Don,t understand why some bright spark has,nt thought of breeding and legally farming these birds for consumption, free of worms and bacteria as well. If the 'delicacy' needs to remain.

...truth is the activists have no case. did they go to the police with their information? have they gone to the north where the people there need a similar "education"? why is it that the media was not approached firstly, with documented facts? if these "activists" are so organised, why could they not see the harm their actions would bring to their cause? ...or is this name calling the goal, shame for a whole population, because there are a few who do not follow what the others now appreciate.

sick, as sick as the hunters who break the law; neither deseves any support.

shame on you vaughn for trying to score points.

Were they acting without permission?

http://www.komitee.de/en/index.php?cyprus2010

"Only today, eight days after the first find, were we allocated support from a Game Fund Patrol. The very committed officers, led by our teams to the gardens, in a short space of time seized a total of 199 limesticks. One poacher was caught red-handed and handed over to the police".

"During the morning more than 300 limesticks and 10 mist nets were handed over to the Paralimni police. The police had authorised the dismantling of the illegal trapping equipment from sites in the Famagusta District".

The newsreader in Cyprus TV commented on the attack on the CABS teams on 30 April as a disgrace for Cyprus. Even Radio Vatican carried the story and interview with our spokesperson. The Paralimni police, who are conducting the investigations, have warned the remaining CABS members to beware further attacks. The Committee has accordingly tightened up its security precautions.

"The SBA police were informed immediately and caught one poacher red-handed. 21 limesticks and the bird caller were seized".

Good post, repulswarrior.

For a wider perspective, one could look at this:-

Of course it is much easier to be an agent provocateur in Cyprus than France (the weather is nicer for a start).

Yes they do eat horses, but I think it is not illegal. I would think the ortolan issue has more parallels with the ambelopoulia issue: it is offically illegal. And literally drowning the wretched things in brandy adds a cruel twist.

That's the hell with Cyprus, its small, so every individual incident that occurs you have people accusing and labeling the entire nation. Its called generalization.
Elton John is gay, therefore all English people are raging homosexuals.
Chicago has extensive areas of poverty and decay therefore the USA is a rat infested slum pit.
The BNP in Britain has seen a rise in support in past few years therefore British people are racist bigots.
Get the picture?
