A DEFIANT Archbishop yesterday declared in parliament that the Church would not pay a cent in tax arrears as long as he was in the leadership.

“We will not pay one cent. As long as I am the Church leader I will not consent to giving even one euro,” Chrysostomos II told the House Oversight Committee, which discussed the issue of taxes owed by the Church to the state.

Its actually not very true...all the businesses the church owns, the beverages, the bank, the hotels etc all pay tax as normal including defense contribution.

So how do they owe €168 million? As I am sure you know, most of the businesses they own (the bank, KEO, Hellenic Mining, etc.) were left by their Greek owner to the Cypriot people, not to the Church.

The dodgy deal that was never ratified was negotiated by the bloke who became the boss of the bank before he left his Government post, I wonder why?

I was quoting the Archbishop. It is said that they do pay their corporate or company tax (or whatever they call it). This 100 odd million euro arrears is not for that.

Perhaps they should donate it to Greece?

Did Christ not say: 'Give unto Caesar that which is Caesars, when asked about paying taxes?

I believe it was 'render unto Caeser' Svet but ... yes! lol!

what the Bible says, in full:

"Tell us, then, what You think. Is it lawful to pay taxes [KJV tribute] to Caesar, or not?" But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, "Why put Me to the test, you hypocrites? Show Me the money for the tax." And they brought Him a coin. And Jesus said to them, "Whose likeness and inscription is this?" They said, "Caesar's." Then He said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." (Matthew 22:17-21 RSV)

Some say he was just telling them which COINAGE to use if they DID pay lol!

Yes, but did Jesus give the coin back or did he keep it?
