The aid programme aiming to promote commercial convergence between the Northern Cyprus and the Southern Cyprus on the basis of the Green Line Regulation was introduced yesterday. It involves market search in both sides and companies willing to participate should submit their applications by the 31st of May.
The programme will be implemented under the Economic Solidarity project which is jointly being carried out by the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Commerce and the Greek Cypriot Chamber of Industry and Commerce; and is aimed at contributing to reunification efforts in Cyprus.
The United Nations Development Programme- Action for Cooperation and Trust is providing funds to the programme worth 30 thousand Euros.
In a speech at the reception in the UN-controlled buffer zone, the Acting President of KTTO Alp Cengiz Alp described trade as a leading tool in the promotion of peace in Cyprus.
In another speech, the President of the Greek Cypriot Chamber Manthos Mavrommatis said that the implementation of the programme is important especially at a time two sides have been under the influence of the economic crisis.
