At least one Greek agrees with you Mr H...

The governor of Kios island has reportedly written to Papandreu asking that young Turks should be allowed to visit the island without visas and settle there freely if they so chose...Polidoros Lambniduris thinks it is high time Greeks gave up their racist and xenophobic attitudes and embrace their Turkish neighbours...The only way forward in the global village economy...could this be the beginning of the end of our little Problem??? :)

Yes, all you need to do, is stir some trouble, get Turkey to invade and occupy it and hey presto, you have your TC colony.

You've done enough damage to Cyprus, why do you want to destroy another GREEK island FFS?

You are just jealous,B25,because we won't have you in our colony...
No racists allowed....You haven't been following this thread closely, have you??? Certain Greek islands are petitioning the Greek government to allow Turks (and TCs!)to settle,to address their economic problems due to an aging population...Got it now???

I am not sure which list you want to be on,cymart, but if you want to be part of the TC colony on Samos you would be most welcome...You can be Greek (there are quite a few of them on Samos  ) or even GC for all I care...Lets all get away from this mindless,soul-destroying conflict and start again somewhere that reminds us,geographically at least,of Cyprus before the 70s... 8)

Evidence of these petitions?

Last petition I heard was from Kalymnos urging the Greek navy to sink some Turkish coast guard vessels that bug the local fishermen for no reason.

Starting fro the north of the Aegean and the island of Agios Efstratios and going all the way to the south to Kastellorizo there is not a single island that does not have problems of naval and/or air harassment on a daily basis.

As for what happens with Turkish island policy in the Aegean no need to look further than Imvros and Tenedos. The fate of the locals there is a vivid living example of what happens to the locals who get too closely embraced by Turkey.

Maybe Bir you have confused the call for day permits for Turkish visitors with settlement permits.

Tiny population my eye!!!

By the same token Switzerland with its 6 million whould be in the poorhouse, not to mention Luxembourg and Lichtenstein!!!

There is no shortage of workmen in Greece from Bulgaria, Romania, SKopje and other Balkan countries. The added advantage of these immigrants is that they are Greek Orthodox, most are Greek speakers and integrate very quickly.

As for the economic theories of spending more than you earn etc, these erstwhile economists should look up the statistics tables, all nations work on deficits. Except for Russia all European states have deficits. Check it out. This year Greece will run a deficit of 8 per cent, the UK one of 12 per cent. If Turkey going to rush to the aid of anyone then the UK seems to have priority.

I was going by the Hurriyet article which I posted earlier,Nikitas...
There it said clearly that the Governor of Kios suggested to PM Papandreu they should consider allowing settlers from Turkey to boost the economy...
Your experiences are certainly more reliable, but what I observed as a tourist on several Greek islands last summer was that people in Greece were mostly over their historical enmity, and ready to move forward towards more interaction and economic cooperation with Turkey...
