Was it not Turkey that has always said that the Cyprus Problem was solved militarily in 1974? So why can't the RoC execute it's sovereign right to self defense?

The ROC is partly illegally occupied by Turkey but it is not under attack, hostilities, in the main, ceased 35 years ago. If the ROC instigate renewed hostilities it will be seen as the aggressor and once again the TCs will be seen as the victims of the GCs. Turkey takes no notice of what others, including the EU, think, to date it won't even open its ports to the ROC. In a war of attrition against Turkey there would only be one outcome, widespread death and destruction on the island and complete Turkish domination.

No Jerry! If China invades Australia and then a cease fire is agreed after China manages to control and occupy 37%, then even after 36 years, if the ADF decide to violate that cease fire in an effort to liberate occupied Australia, it is still China that is the aggressor because it is China that occupies Australia and the ADF has recommenced hostilities to liberate occupied Australia and defend the nations sovereignty which is under threat.

The mere fact that Cyprus is still under occupation is an attack on RoC sovereignty, and any effort to liberate is not an act of aggression but an act of defense. It is the RoC's sovereign right to defend its sovereignty.

Not a very good analogy Paphitis, the Turkish Cypriots do have rights in Cyprus even if the 37% they occupy is not legally theirs, I don't think the Chinese inhabitants of Australian were ever granted such rights. A military "defence" of the north would involve "defence" against the TCs. The EU and the UN would take a pretty dim view of such action.
Don't get me wrong, I hate what Turkey and Turkish fascists have done to Cyprus but the consequences and risks involved in renewed hostilities are just not worth it.

There you have it Jerry.

The Cyprus Problem in a nutshell.

No, the Chinese minority do not have any additional rights over all other Australian citizens. Everyone is equal in the eyes of the Commonwealth.

But some TCs seem to think that they can hold 37% of Cyprus to ransom so that they can achieve additional rights to the detriment to all other RoC citizens. Now you tell me. What kind of a nation will the RoC become? Will you be happy to raise a family in such a country? I wouldn't, but that's just me!

I am certain the RoC will never deny the TCs EQUAL citizenship rights. In fact, the RoC already does offer the TCs these rights. And yes, the TCs should have these rights and I personally would be willing to defend their rights.

You do to the chinese what you did to the TCs and see if China sits by idle and does nothing.

The Chinese minority does not expect any special status in Australia, and they are more than willing to abide by the nation's rules and by the decisions of the overwhelming majority, even if that meant Union with Taiwan!

China would be committing suicide if it laid a finger on Australia, and they know it!

An apology is in order GR for being disrespectful and racist.

Wow us Cypriots have visions of grandeur... Analogies with China and Australia hmmm
Fact is most countries don't really give a damn.

There are over 300 cities in the world with a population of over 1 million. Most people on this forum couldn't even come up with 75.

Bana ne is what most think - Kyprianou, no one cares about him or his constant wahhh wahhh wahhh, reality check - massive standard of living and still not happy!

the language on this Forum is degenerating to the point of vileness.
Are you really happy about younger people logging on and finding such language here?
You clearly dont have any respect for yourselves but shouldnt you be a bit more respectful to the ladies who use this forum and not sink to that level?
If you have to resort to those kind of words then you have already lost the Argument.

a solution cannot favour one or the other. the struggle is to find our way to demonstrate the Principal of Bicommunality, and Bizonality, to the rest of the world, in a maner which satisfies our demands as Individuals while as Persons there iexists a functional manner for the governance which we need to sustain such an Identity.

griping about what is past is an act of Ignorance unless we overcome the fear which leaves us at this impasse. to learn, to adapt, are natural, and as Humans if we do not work for this betterment, our efforts to better some root will fail as well. many would be ready to deal, if only there were no living relics, if only the Patrimony had a value monetarily, it would be easy; some percentage to figure and that's it.

most important is the need for humility. Greeks speak like "Greeks", and Turks, "Turks", like they are exculsives, at least the ones who want to be heard. i find both sadly lacking in an acumen which makes each a great representation of the ethno-sphere. where is any inspiration for those who are neither? as a greek cypriot i am proud of our ability to recover from the trauma of a great Injustice. i am ashamed that we cannot militate as guerillas, in war without arms, with our collaborators northward, that are Cypriots. i am disappointed that Cypriots don't recall the comical aspects of their plight, that they are few yet they are many. we were the Great Cooperators, and we were the most Socialised people of the World, refined with a practice over hundreds, and thousands of years. is this what we will dismiss, abandon, in our gratitude? in the Age of the Modern, when we are past the Information Age, Cyprus no longer a tribute to Mankind's Ages, this beginning, it will be recorded as a plunder no different, what wealth squandered for money. why can't you who do not fear for their lives trade? i would. a shop where you know where your money is going too, demonstrate the will to associate; the politicians obviously cannot.

the same thing over and over again, what caused us all this pain, the acts of an era when niggers hung from trees; wake up, unfreeze, act. reaction, sustaining the vicious cycle, it escalates festering with an eruption a natural course. GR is not wrong, it frightens you, yet the persistence in selfish manners will end one way or the other; things cannot remain the way they are forever. easy to talk of the violence that will be the result, we cannot imagine, and in due course it will destroy us all. a solution to the Problem must please Turkey as a litmus test, we are lucky to have such a severe revue, if it is a Freedom which is pleasing not to ourselves, neither as Greeks, or "Greeks", Turks, or "Turks", not even as Cypriots, but as members of a bigger Family of Ourselves.

realisticly, our choices are few; there are some though which have been dismissed, like social exchange between Cypriots in direct actions most locally. unless "Greek" and "Turk" are diminished so that they become a component of a Cypriot fabric, we are lesser, as a People; and dividing this island by tearing it in two to appease "them" will invite no end to the enmity.
