This claim sounds pretty far fetched to me…
In 1981 = 220,000 Km
In 2004 = 4,600,000 Km
------------------------------------
23 years = 4,380,000 Km
Each Year = 190,435 Km
Each Month = 15,870 Km
Each Day = 522 Km
That’s like a straight line from London to Glasgow, or from Ankara to Izmir every single day, and that’s not counting time spent in garages for repairs and other hassles!
The distance counter of a 1976 car can be easily manipulated either way, with a power drill. A typical Greek conman if you ask me…!
And the motive? Well, he knew he’d get something for that like a good discount on his next Mercedes maybe, or at the very least fame but luckily for him Dr Alexander at Mercedes probably got his doctorate in public relations instead of basic Arithmetic!
“Highlighting the reception the president of DaimlerChrysler Hellas, Dr. Alexander Paufler, presented Mr. Sachinidis with a key for a new C 200 CDI to be picked up upon his return to Greece.”
Prob the meter on his taxi , not the odometer,(dashboard) .. plus he rotated 3 engines.............
If only we could say I have the same wife (only changed her 3 times )
and then get a new one free

. I make that an average of 13 miles travelled each hour each day, quite feasibleHere it was in service as a taxi 24 hours a day until July 2004.
