Apparently the mileage can get quite high with no probs but you don't want to "bend a valve" on a diesel. This is what happened to me driving to Cyprus once, which meant having the heater on full blast through the Balkans and Anatolia. In the summer. So watch out for those valves. :)

Hi Eric, mine's not a diesel! I was just mentioning what I'd been told about them in relation to the car in this thread.

I enjoy driving about in Cyprus. When you've driven about London for years, Cyprus roads seem deserted. Makes me laugh to see Cyp drivers getting all ariated if they are in a queue of about 5 cars.

When I lived in the West Country, where the roads are also very quiet compared with London, we used to say if you see 3 cars at the same time it's a traffic jam and if you see 5 or more, you must be in a car park!

I know Cypriots who live in Limassol and haven't ever been to Larnaca! They seem to have to use their cars to go everywhere but won't use them to travel more than about 10 miles to get to work. And if they hear you are moving more than 70 miles away, they behave as if you are emigrating to Australia and they'll never see you again!

I don't know how anyone can live in such a small country as Cyprus and not want to see ALL of it - it's so easy to do.

This claim sounds pretty far fetched to me…

In 1981 = 220,000 Km
In 2004 = 4,600,000 Km
------------------------------------
23 years = 4,380,000 Km

Each Year = 190,435 Km

Each Month = 15,870 Km

Each Day = 522 Km

That’s like a straight line from London to Glasgow, or from Ankara to Izmir every single day, and that’s not counting time spent in garages for repairs and other hassles!

The distance counter of a 1976 car can be easily manipulated either way, with a power drill. A typical Greek conman if you ask me…!

And the motive? Well, he knew he’d get something for that like a good discount on his next Mercedes maybe, or at the very least fame but luckily for him Dr Alexander at Mercedes probably got his doctorate in public relations instead of basic Arithmetic!

“Highlighting the reception the president of DaimlerChrysler Hellas, Dr. Alexander Paufler, presented Mr. Sachinidis with a key for a new C 200 CDI to be picked up upon his return to Greece.”

You missed this bit
Here it was in service as a taxi 24 hours a day until July 2004.
. I make that an average of 13 miles travelled each hour each day, quite feasible

Sounds like a salesman!

You'd need pretty quiet roads to average that sort of distance daily.

But, if it was being used by several drivers and used 24/7 it is not unbelievable.
