EU strips Greece of its vote

Postby Gasman » Thu May 06, 2010 3:26 pm

The European Union has shown its righteous wrath by stripping Greece of its vote at a crucial meeting next month, the worst humiliation ever suffered by an EU member state.

The council of EU finance ministers said Athens must comply with austerity demands by March 16 or lose control over its own tax and spend policies altogether. It if fails to do so, the EU will itself impose cuts under the draconian Article 126.9 of the Lisbon Treaty in what would amount to economic suzerainty.

While the symbolic move to suspend Greece of its voting rights at one meeting makes no practical difference, it marks a constitutional watershed and represents a crushing loss of sovereignty. "We certainly won't let them off the hook," said Austria's finance minister, Josef Proll, echoing views shared by colleagues in Northern Europe. Some German officials have called for Greece to be denied a vote in all EU matter until it emerges from "receivership".

The EU shows its true colours!

This is the Lisbon Treaty that most of us have been denied an opportunity to vote on... :x

Those that did vote had to keep voting until they got the 'right' answer....

T'was YOU lady O, that was OBSESSED with Greece not so long ago. You started all those threads about Greece and Cyprus being Greek and blah blah. And all of them rubbish. The glory of Greece indeed!

I do have a great interest in keeping up to date with what they are doing in Greece right now (not ancient mythology). They could affect my personal finances if they don't start behaving themselves. Unlike you, I live in Cyprus in the Eurozone. Unlike you I AM interested in what's happening in my host country. I can imagine what you'd have to say if loads of immigrants into Cyprus were posting here saying what you said about the UK - that they don't give a shit about Cyprus. Charming.

Just reading about the EU taking Greece to the ECJ on account of the millions of euros worth of illegal tax breaks they gave businesses. Strange thing to do if they knew they were going bust.

You see if you read the World News re Greece - you get all these interesting links down the side of the screen to these other stories! But then someone like you O, must already know ALL there is to know about Greece ... mustn't they?

Greece is glorious and bloody beautiful to!

Who gives a shit about your personal finances when it is just an excuse you are after to bash Greece around a little, never mind all the Greeks that will be doing it very tough from now on, and that a devalued EURO would probably suit you because you are English that probably has some GBP you can exchange to EUROS, which means that this crisis would actually favour your finances.

You're such a hypocrite!

BTW I know you were trying to hide the actual dates, but in future, you had better quote the source or you'll be wanted for compromising Copyrights!
