It would be a good idea for names to be named.

But those killed were defending their village from encirclement and NG attack. Why did the old man, Mehmet Emin Arap (a negro descendat) have to be burnt to death. Was it a racist thing? They were the sons of their mothers and it should not have come to this. I went to school with most of those killed. It still leaves a bitter taste in ones mouth. I am sure many mothers lost their family members during internecine fighting. Oh why, oh why? Bloody politicians. Go to hell, all of them.

Perhaps Pyro can answer that one?
Was the closing of the road worth kiling of 27 innocent TCs. If they did not feel threatened would they close the road.
As far as I am aware, no GC would want to venture into any of the encles.

There was a by-pass, built in 1958. They had armed posts, like the NG had armed troops all over the island. What the RoC wanted was the patrolling inside the village which was NOT acceptable. The why's or reasons are blatantly obvious. But the politicians failed big time. Grivas just wanted another notch on his gun.

Shame that there are people on this forum that support Decuntis's activities to this day.

We don't bother with past now.... we have a new Pilaf's front of us....we are engage how we can eat new ones ..........

FORMATION OF THE NEW GOVERNMENT

TRNC President Dervis Eroglu has met with all political parties with sits at the parliament within the framework of the formation of a new government. The President met with members of the Freedom and Reform Party, Social Democratic Party, Democrat Party, Republican Turkish Party and National Unity Party respectively.

A new government is expected to be formed following the President’s meetings with the political parties.

IRSEN KUCUK NOMINATED AS UBP LEADER

Irsen Kucuk has been nominated as the new Leader of the National Unity Party. The post was left empty after the former Leader Dervis Eroglu was elected as the TRNC President last month.
UBP held its 8th extraordinary congress in Lefkosa yesterday to fill in the post.
Kucuk, who was serving UBP as the General Secretary, was the only candidate for the party leadership after consensus was reached among all party members.

Addressing the audience, Kucuk emphasized that the Cyprus problem will not be solved without the recognition of the Cyprus Turkish People’s sovereign existence.

He said a strong TRNC in all fields is a must have for the UBP.

TALAT

The Second TRNC President Mehmet Ali Talat has given an interview to the Turkish News Agency Cyprus (TAK) where he gave the message that he will not withdraw from politics.

“I am ready to continue serving, depending on the conditions” he said.

Talat claimed that the propaganda of some circles which said there would not be solution to the Cyprus problem actually played a determining role in the outcome of last month’s presidential election.

He also rejected the approach that Turkey was to decide on who would win the election in the TRNC.

The Second President stopped short of commenting on President Dervis Eroglu’s term as he said it would be unjust to do so before peace negotiations were launched.

Adding that the Republican Turkish Party had a role in the outcome of the presidential election, Talat said he is not intending to maintain his political life with a return to the CTP.

EROGLU “WE ARE IN FOR A SETTLEMENT”
“We are in for a fair and sustainable solution, based on the realities of the island, before the end of this year” President Dervis Eroglu has stressed. The President was addressing the Extraordinary Congress of the National Unity Party held yesterday which he attended as the guest of honour.

He said the Cyprus Turkish Side is in for a settlement as long as the Turkish Cypriots right of self-determination, equal sovereignty, bi-zonality and the continuation of Turkey’s active and effective guarantee are not destroyed.

“I will be the President of the public and form the National Council; and I will be in close cooperation with motherland Turkey while doing so” the President went on saying.

Reminding that the negotiations will be resumed with the Greek Cypriot Side as from the 26th of May, Eroglu informed that the formation of the negotiations team is almost completed.

In reference to the letter he sent to the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, President Eroglu urged all to avoid aiming to force Turkish Cypriots to return to the pre-1974 period.
