Spot on, apc2010. A true American hero. The new film documentary, American: The Bill Hicks Story, is well worth watching:

The known-unknown lowered the Greek flag that stood beside the war memorial and missing of our community (Emba - Paphos) tore it up on and threw on the ground. Please note that the Cypriot flag was left intact.

Supposedly our friends who tore it up and left the flag of the Republic of Cyprus is not aware that the hero, Christopher George fought for this flag?

It's time to put a police officer or to find out who frequented there. Make some moves to protect the monument.

As locals, we demand from our current leaders to take the necessary measures in order to stop the desecration done to the monument.

So what's the problem?

Did you parents not teach you anything about respecting other flags with a legitimate reason to fly?

No, but this is what Bill Hick's taught me...

Oh, that makes it all right then! Because you are living your life according to an American Comedian!

“The world is like a ride in an amusement park. And when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it's very brightly coloured and it's very loud and it's fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time and they begin to question: "Is this real, or is this just a ride?" And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, "Hey, don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride." And we kill those people.”

“It's just a ride and we can change it any time we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings and money, a choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your door, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love instead see all of us as one.”

"Here's what you can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money that we spend on weapons and defence each year, and instead spend it feeding, clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, for ever, in peace"

NOT YOUR USUAL AMERICAN COMEDIAN and sadly missed

...indeed flags taken to the level where they are shown contempt. a symbol people die for, to be used specifically to harm. proud flag holders at great lengths brag a contempt for others.

...i said seven flags, because it can never be one, although one will be supreme, sovereign, speaking for all the people as this islands dwellers, as this island's steward. ...thus, facts on the ground, our governace requires two levels of Government, to identiify two different qualities in our social nature; us as Persons, us as Individuals: this is bicommunal. ...you can count it out, that's the number of flags (and counting) on cyprus right now...

...what the heck, in my fantasy Cyprus is colourful, there are so many flags, and where any flag flys so too the Cypriot; their Principal.

A funny, intelligent, insightfull soul.... who, because of his habit of telling the truth, was not as popular as he should have been.
His work is still regarded as some of the best political and social satire ever.

Get hold of a copy of Relentless or Dangerous and laugh but listen !!!!!!!

Died tragically young in 1994.

His final "authorised" words -

"I left in love, in laughter, and in truth and wherever truth, love and laughter abide, I am there in spirit"

Thanks for the explanatory influences behind some of your forum outbursts!

Hicks' sort of low-brow culture may be "helpful" to Americans gaining some social conscience, but it doesn't do a thing for us Europeans. 8)
