BEWARE THIS IS A SCAM !

Postby miltiades » Mon May 03, 2010 3:51 pm

A relation of mine spotted a real bargain on www.autotrader.co.uk
An Audi TT , 2007 with low mileage at the fantastic price of 5000 STG !!
I sent an email and the "seller@ responded , a woman called Alyson Royle, based in ...Spain.
She sent me further emails asking me to contact www.yahoo-finances-uk.com
Its a sophisticated scam and I'm certain some poor sod somewhere parted with 5000 pounds. The car is not on offer today !!!

READ THIS AND BEWARE ...

I am glad to hear that you are interested to buy my 2007 Audi TT 2.0T FSI! Although I am registered in the UK,i recently moved to Cadiz, Spain (where my family is from) and the car is being shipped from here. I want to sell it in UK due to the fact that it's an UK version (right handed),it meets all UK standards.I bought this car from UK and It still has UK registration, so you won't have to pay any import and insurance fees. The car meets all United Kingdom guidelines so there will be no problem regarding UK Customs policy on receiving the car.The car is in perfect condition, the bodywork is immaculate,no scratches, dents or hidden defects as well as the interior in excellent non-smoking condition , never been implied in any accident and it is as advertised .The car comes with log book, HPI cleared, No finance. You will get from me the keys and all documents to register the car in you name.If the car is not how i described it, i will offer a full refund. It will be insured during transportation and will be delivered at your address in maximum 10 days. Final price is GBP 5,000 (the price includes shipping and insurance fees). The price is low because the car is right hand drive in a country where all cars are left hand drive so in the Spain is very difficult to drive this type of vehicle and nobody wants to buy it here in Spain.Instead of keeping it in garage (during this economical crisis), I decided to sell it to someone back in the UK for a really attractive price.I want to take this opportunity to assure you that this deal is 100% legitimate, the deal will be manage by a well known company,in this way both buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.
Let me know if you need any further details or if you would like to buy my car.
Thank you!

Send her an email asking for the registration number and the chassis number, then contact the DVLA to see if its been reported stolen or even if it exists.

Next, ask her if Raymond Bent is some sort of relation to her  (thats if I got it correct that Raymond Bent is the owner of the site!! Can somebody clarify??)

These are the details on yahoo-finances that I found.

Is that your friend's email address you've posted on the forum?

This car from abroad scam has been going on on eBay for years. Some people still fall for it (of course they do or the scammers wouldn't keep on with it).

This particular scam is one of the most successful !!
Firstly the car is advertised on a well known UK site such as www.autotrader.co.uk . Secondly it plays on the fact that when it comes to car bargains people are very gullible and easily swayed .
Thirdly , the method of payment ie via Yahoo which really isn't Yahoo at all , gives prospective buyers a feeling of confidence.
The most fundamental principle that people should adopt is that if a deal looks too good to be true it probably is !
This particular Audi offered for 5000 was a 2007 model that normally sells for 10000 plus , how on earth can this low mileage car , 32,000 miles I believe was the figure mentioned, be less than half the market price !!
My relative was really taken in and he came to me in order to arrange finance . I of course smelled a rat straight away but went along and exchanged emails with this so called ALISON RYLE !!

Keen to drive a Lexus? Why don't you ask this owner for a good offer (Her "generous offer" is probably another good chance to throw your money out of the window):

Unfortunately, I've deleted her answer.

Ebay? Lol m8! Sorry but your wrong. If on ebay your doing the transaction through paypal your more than 100% safe.

It's only when idiots are asked to continue the transaction outside through paypal that fall for it. This usually happens to people who don't have a clue about the e-world.

we get so many e-mails and scammers within the tourism industry so many of their stories are believable to the untrained personnel, but once you spot one the others all seem the same as the wording and layouts are similar. one of the biggest giveaways is when the e-mail is not sent to your e-mail address and either has the e-mailers address in the to: or it has undisclosed recipients. however some manage to get your e-mail in the to: section. but the wording is usually similar.

Just have to correct you here Fragnatic m8 lol!. Car sales are not covered by Paypal Buyer Protection.

I've been using eBay for many years. I advise new sellers on their help forums so if there's anything else you don't know about - just ask!
