Loise, Can I suggest that you look up whether there is a community support group from your Country. Where were you from?

As you have now gathered Loise, there are retards in Cyprus as well.

Just keep away from them by avoiding "support groups" aka whinging brits

Cyprus is a lovely laid back and friendly place and if you make an effort to speak a little Greek you will be accepted for who you are.Obviously you need as in any country to dress apprpriately to avoid men thinking you are an " Ayia napa slapper".If you have self resect you will receive respect and friendship.
There are a huge amount of ex pats out here not all of whom are to be trusted as happens in any nationality so just be aware.
Rent somewhere there are families as they tend to be the more respectable areas and make sure you get everything in writing and witnessed with regard to deposits etc.
Good luck in Cyprus,I hope you make good friends enjoy your new job and enjoy the good things the country has to offer.

Hi there, I think the only problem you may have if you come on your own is being a bit lonely.

If you make friends quickly you will probably be ok.

I wouldnt worry too much about the men.

There are so many blonde Russians here now that you will blend in nicely.

ha ha ! Great comments!

I think I'll be fine and thanks for all the tips and advise, i definitely won't be joining any community groups, I am going with the hope of thoroughly enjoying the cypriot experience which i won't be able to do speaking english people. Not really my cup of tea!!! Plus i've spent all weekend trying to wrap my head aroung the greek alphabet and simple phrases. Need to practice them now.

Thanks again everyone though!!! :-)

One phrase you will soon get used to is "This is Cyprus" it usualy follows when you've been ripped off or conned by anyone like your landlord car repairer etc.
If you're renting and decide to leave don't pay the last months rent because you'll never ever get your deposit back on the flimsiest of excuses.
The Cypriots are lovely people but they make Jews look like spendthrifts.

So once again we get someone who wasn't willing to argue the toss branding all Cypriots as con artists!

The gullible will always get ripped off in whatever country they are!
