Better to get half a loaf now and enjoy it than die dreaming about how you might be able to get the other half.....
Better to keep things the way they are, than to agree on a so called solution and then dream about the political and democratic rights I once had.
Paphiti, what he is trying to say is, as long has he can get his wifes varosha land (half the loaf) back, he couldn't git a shit about anyone else.
This is the interpretation of his post. what he, as a non cypriot, doesn't understand, that once the half is accepted the whole is lost. This is something we will not agree to.
So, unless we have an acceptable solution to the WHOLE of the island, no can do matey!
Whilst I agree with your sentiments the reality is that the next generation and the one after that will not care as much about justice as we do today. Imagine that in 35 years time the status quo persists, very few of those who saw the events of 1974 will still be alive. Some of my cousins have all but given up on Cyprus, they made comfortable lives for themselves in the UK after the invasion and their offspring have no knowledge of what they lost in the north.
We will never get back everything that was lost but the Turks must realise that if we feel cheated by a future solution there will never be peace and harmony on the island.
Personally, whilst I do not want partition, I believe it may be the only way to regain our fair share of Cyprus. Let Turkey shove 20% of the island up its arse - sideways. They will then have no say on the affairs of the ROC - we will, of course, have to agree permanent derogations with the EU regarding freedom of movement into the ROC.
