How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

question for tc

Postby cypezokyli » Tue Jul 26, 2005 1:40 pm

i ve seen in this forum already many times:
thats what u meant
thats what u think
thats what u want.
everybody seems to know the innerer thoughts of the other side...

anyway
since i dont pocess such a power, i would like to ask and hopefully learn.

the gc media and way of thinking usually described the denktash era as oppresive also for the tc. (forget about the pre1974 things etc etc )

was it like that?
or is it just a fairy tail we like to believe in the south?
and if yes, do u feel any real change in the talat era?

What oppresion? There is none, the only oppresion to Turkish Cypriots comes from the embargoes. North Cyprus is about the most relaxed place i know on earth.

For the TC left wing, any right wing party in power is oppressive for themselves...

Now TC left is in power and the TC right wing feel the same oppression because of TC left wing is in power...

In my opinion, both political parties are partisans... However if the level of partisanhip of TC left is 5 , the partisanship of TC right was 10. If the political ability of TC right wing was 5, the political ability of TC left wing is 10.

These are two main differences between TC left wing and TC right wing; thus Talat and Denktash.

thanks mate

if it is indeed how u say
"However if the level of partisanhip of TC left is 5 , the partisanship of TC right was 10. If the political ability of TC right wing was 5, the political ability of TC left wing is 10."

then... bravo u have made the right choise.

my question is why did it the denktash era last that long, if u had a better choise?

the typical greekcypriot answer to it would be : Ankara decided that denktash does not suit her anymore so it chose talat.

this answer i already know. it has only a small problem...
it is the greek cypriot analysis on sth that concerns the turkish cypriots!!!
so it is inevitably biased.

i am interested in your answer to it
why did it last that long?
and what brought its defeat?

Denktas did not win elections in the North at least 2 times. One in 1980, when he officially won by a very small margin, and a lot of polling irregularities took place like lost and burned ballots, etc. In 2000 Denktas did not win in the 1st round of the elections. In the 2nd round his main opponent had to step down because of the pressure and threats from Turkey, so he won without the second round of voting.

If north Cyprus was an ideal democracy Denktas would have lost a long time ago. Lack of ideal democracy does not diminish the victory of the left in the recent elections, just the opposite.

I said it before and I repeat it again, current TC leaders are not selected by Turkey, they got there despite Turkey.

Surely if the old order were in power in Turkey it would have been very difficult for anyone to overthrow Denktash. I think the progressive and decent TC's exploited the signals coming not only from Turkey, but also from the USA (the US ambassador in Nicosia attended the mass rallies against Denktash) in a very decisive way. I take my hat off to these genuine Cypriots but, as you know, we are now stuck with our own Denktash.
