Armenian-Turkish peace process stopped

Postby Lit » Sat Apr 24, 2010 4:07 am

When this accord was signed last year...i predicted in a thread which i cant seem to find...but anyway, the contributors in that thread were discussing the Annan plan and i mentioned that Turkey's signature isnt worth the paper its written on and pointed to this specific Armenian Turkish accord stating that it will fail because Turkey is going to find some precondition to mess things up, again. And as you can see...the Armenian-Turkish peace process stopped because of Turkey's refusal to ratify without preconditions:

Sarkisian lashed out at Turkey for trying to set “preconditions” on the deal, in a clear reference to Ankara’s position that the process cannot move forward without progress in Armenia’s conflict with Turkish ally Azerbaijan over the breakaway Nagorny Karabakh region.

“For a whole year, Turkey’s senior officials have not spared public statements in the language of preconditions,” he said. “From this moment on, we consider the current phase of normalisation exhausted.”
