Why do they have to be Sri Lankan?

Cheap labour!

I guessed that much.

But it's not right (legal?) to specify a nationality. Isn't it common (EU) policy that jobs should go to Cypriots (EU) first and then only if they cannot fill the vacancy it can be offered to a foreign national?

It would be interesting to know what nationality "pepps" is? Sri Lanka is outside the EU so is an illegal immigrant surely?

That's ridiculous.

Just because they are Sri Lankan that doesn't mean they are illegal immigrants!

Sri Lankans can be here legally:
i) if they have married an EU national
ii) have bought a property in excess of €300,000
iii) have a Work Permit
iv) have Refugee status
v) have the right tio Residency, though living here in excess of 5 years

In reality, the majority are here on 'second' passports, which them allows them to work here in excess of the 4 years laid down when Work Permits are granted (to avoid (v) above)
