What motiveation would they have for such a foolish act???

What motivation did they have to sack and burn Smirni in 1922 when the majority were Greeks?

Was that not just after the Greeks did the same thing to the whole region?

The Greek Army retreated! Why didn't the TA stop? What motivation did they have to sack and burn an entire city populated by Greek civilians?

No, the Greek Army did not sack and burn towns and cities. They did not send Turkish Civilians on death marches into the desert. I believe you call this "deportations".

Greeks are a nation of liars: brilliant liars, spectacular liars, breathtaking liars.

That's funny, because the Greek Army was long gone, but many Greeks remained behind in their city.

Smyrna was never a Turkish city in need of liberation. You ransacked and stole this Greek city. And that is exactly what the Turkish Army has done to Cyprus. And yes, we are under no illusions. They would love to take the entire island when the chance presents itself! They would gladly see all TCs and GCs erased from the island. At least with the TCs, it appears they are making very rapid progress!

Thousands of Greeks perished in the desert on death marches.

What was the Turkish Army's motivation for this?

"Our history books say it was the retreating Greek Army... "

Forget the history books of each sides' ministry of education. Read some cables of third party diplomats and military officers and the picture is not at all flattering to either side.

Thank you Nikitas. Bafidobullo was under the impression that the Greeks were angels.

I was referring to Smyrna in 1922 and not the Greek Army!

Why did you sack and burn the entire city and send thousands of Greek civilians to their death?

Fred did that? I knew he was a bit naughty, but that comes as something of a surprise.
