Don't start crying when you realise it is all a pipe dream and that any trade will be occurring if and only the RoC agrees to it, and through RoC controlled ports. You can't defeat fundamental legalities sunshine!

But we can cylindrecise them and shove up into your nether regions, what?

Oh you hurt my feelings....

BIR, this is what you call an insult!

Where? Where is the insult..???? I am too stupid to work it out,you Stupido..

Now lets get back on topic....I'd like to know what people think about the benchmark to decide our "compromises"???

Should it be the 1960 agreement??? (59 really, but you know the one I mean)...And why?
Should it be the reality after 1974??? Why???

Or name your own way of deciding...

Stupido can answer this too...And Yfred please don't insult our Stupido,he can't help it...He was born that way...

Bir I really do feel that we are all too nervous about how any solution potentially would play out in our lives. This whole paralysis of analysis is a real condition for all that have been so heavily involved in the Cyprus problem.

I had a slight hope that progress could have been made with the negotiations but the attitudes were not fertile for positive development by the range of interested parties in achieving progress. They are still not.

I believe piecemeal problem solving will be more rewarding and provide a more realistic chance of success. They would alleviate the immediate and most divisive pressures. Thereafter confidence would likely improve that the two sides can actually work together =>that kind of confidence building is necessary for people to make bolder leaps of faith to see this problem solved once and for all.

You want direct trade. It was offered to you. All you had to do was offer Varoshia in exchange. This would have simplified matters a great deal, since 45,000 GC refugees would be able to return to their town. It would have simplified the negotiations, making it far easier a settlement as the property rights of no less than 45,000 people would have been addressed.

You declined the offer.

But as I said. You don't want a compromise. You don't want a True BBF based on the UN framework. So what do most TCs want?

Agreed Partition? Christofias is at the negotiations table and will listen to your proposals. All you need to do is be upfront! Otherwise, we are just wasting our time. Does the UN serve real coffee at least?

Papad's dusty 3 legged esek of a compromise... There's the real carpetbagger.

You certainly are on a par with all the hardliners. I don't know why you therefore find it so easy to critisize them for their intractable viewpoints and often pretend to want a solution that is beneficial for "all" Cypriots.

You are as transparent as the waters in Tatlisu.

Real solutions that are beneficial to both parties - that is how you win trust to go forward.

How are 70 million Turks with Cypriot citizenship in the interests of both parties?

What is the interests of GC's and TC's if Turkewy has final say on what Cyprus does with its continental shelf?

Is there a solution that is acceptable to both sides?

There is a True BBF, and the GCs have accepted this a long time ago. What they rejected was a Confederacy system in 2004, which heavily favoured the TCs. They unanimously declined.

Many compromises have been offered. Rotating Presidency, 50,000 TC settlers to remain on humanitarian grounds, and your own administered state within a Federated Cyprus. What more do you want?

Even this was unacceptable for most of you. So now we have Status Quo. This is OK. We don't have much to lose.

You now want direct trade. Well, we want Varoshia. It simplifies things a lot. You declined this offer as well!

Yfred .... the fact that you want direct trade with EU, you need them otherwise you would not request it. so if you have managed so well then tell em to piss off and leave you alone.

Not sure if the 'talks' had much influence on the result or not really. After all, it is not just a whole generation and more of GCs who have never lived in a United Cyprus, same thing goes for a generation or more of TCs too - and of course the settlers. And the 'Cyprus Talks' had been going on so long with no headway ...

Maybe if Talat and Christofias had been more forthcoming about what they'd agreed/accomplished so far as they went along? And not left the (seemingly) all important issues of PROPERTY and SECURITY until last?

I wasn't talking about the elections results. Talat was no different to Eroglu!

The situation is that there will never be any compromise which will see a True BBF being agreed to and which is workable and viable and is based on UN resolutions and UN framework. This is mainly as a result of unreal demands and expectations from the TC side.

The election results are irrelevant. It is apparent to us, that the TC side want a recognised "trnc". They prefer fully agreed Partition. Unfortunately, they do not know how to achieve this.

Also, I am not saying that most GCs or the RoC will find this acceptable. I just believe that there is a fair chance that it will be acceptable, provided the TC side make certain proposals which are fair. It is certainly my opinion that agreed partition is the only workable and achievable solution if not unitary state or True BBF. Many GCs I speak to feel the same way. For this to be acceptable, it is really up the the TC side to offer a fair 80:20 split which can then be put to a referendum. Otherwise, we just remain with the Status Quo, and this is also fine with us, because we will never sign away 37% of Cypriot territory.

Yes it is painful. But it is hardly our fault. The TCs will not compromise.

They need to work things out for themselves. We know exactly what we want, but it appears that they do not know how to achieve what they want!

They need to make the first move.

Wasn't it the GCs who turned down a BBF plan put forward by the UN
