hi all
i hope someone can help me, i have been offered a job in nicosia and i have never been there before let alone cyprus, so as you can imagine i have no idea what it is like there, the job is a permenant posision, so it would mean relocating, iam male, 36, and single, so any advice i would appreciate it, on anything you can think of, meeting new people, cost of living, food, beer, rent, absolutly anything would help, iam doing my own research but it all helps :?

Just make sure that your 'permanent position' is in writing!!! It is not the same as the rest of the world.

Employers think that you are disposable... just like a gynecologist's glove and they treat you like the place the gloves have just come from!!!

Lucky you having been offered a job, they are as rare as hens teeth and poorly paid usually.Nicosia not everyone's cup of tea, very hot in summer, divided city, many vagrants and homeless squatters usually eastern europeans quite high crime since the latter entered the european union. Some lovely old buildings and culture and I believe social life there if you know where to look.
Cyprus prices on a par with UK in some things like council tax cheaper but some imported foodstuffs very overpriced as are 2nd hand cars.Asking silly money for 20 year old cars which would be scrap in UK.Renting can be quite a bargain as many homes not selling so people renting out cheaply just to cover costs and also not left empty for squatters or thieves to break in.Really do your homework as there are bargains to be had and life can be good in Cyprus if you have a good income and find nice friends.Lots of corruption in every sphere so beware of being conned.
