I like living in Paphos though it appears quite empty this year compared with previous years.

There are two official signs in close proximity on the road leading into the municipality which I inhabit, one spells the place "Agios Athanasios" and the other "Ayos Athanasios"!

We had a Minister of Education and Culture some years ago that "misinterpreted" a UN regulation on place name translation so all the Ayios became Agios Ayia Agia and the worst of all Paphos Pafos! The tried to change the name of where I live, but the council told them to p*ss off!

I am not going to tell you the many versions of Anglissidhes/Anglisides/Aglisides/Anglisiya/Ellisides etc etc I have come accross. :lol:
