Cyprus golf & country resort at Tersefanou

The Board of Directors of Medgolf Group of Companies has released a statement regarding the Golf Resort and Country Club in the Tersefanou area of Larnaca.

The Board of Directors of Medgolf Group of Companies would like to release the following statement regarding the true facts and current status of the Medgolf Larnaca Golf Resort and Country Club, located in the Tersefanou area.
The companies of the Group are privately owned and their shareholders are highly professional, successful and dedicated individuals involved in a variety of projects, including the Medgolf Larnaca Golf Resort and Country Club.
It has always been the Group’s policy to keep all the information regarding the above mentioned project within the Directors and their close associates and partners. However, due to misleading information from recent press articles and various forums, The Medgolf Group takes this direct initiative to publicly set the correct information.
Our Group has secured and acquired an area of 1,515,224m² of land in the Tersefanou area solely for the development of the Medgolf Larnaca Golf Resort and Country Club. The title deeds of all the plots are registered to Medgolf Properties Ltd and Medgolf Investments Ltd; member companies of the Medgolf Group.
Our initial communication with the relevant Governmental Departments and preliminary application for the project was in 2004. The same year we appointed a team comprised of some of the World’s best professionals, from Resort Master Planners to Golf Course Architects, listed below, as well as other reputable, international and local consultants.
Consultant Type
Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo (W.A.T.G) Master Planners
Economic Research Associates (E.R.A) Feasibility Study & Market Research
European Golf Designers (E.G.D) Golf Course Designers
SCAPE Design Associates Landscape and Irrigation Architects
Enviroplan Environmental Consultants
PriceWaterhouseCoopers Auditors

In 2006 approval for the specific usage of the land was obtained and our primary Master Plan and Environmental Impact Assessment were deposited to the relevant authorities. Due to further land area requirements by the Government a secondary Master Plan was produced.
On the 31st of October of the same year the Medgolf Properties Ltd entered into an agreement with PGA Golf Management Ltd for the management and operation of the Golf Facilities.
In 2007 we received approval from the Water Development Department to proceed with the construction of our own Desalination Unit (for this reason the group acquired the necessary plot of land near the sea). Soon after that a revised and comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment for the Resort and the Desalination unit was completed and deposited to the Government, along with an essential Traffic Study.
In June 2007, our Group was granted the licence to apply the PGA National brand exclusively to the Golf Academy of the resort and to be known as “The PGA National Golf Academy of Cyprus”.
In March 2008 the detailed Technical Master Plan of the project was completed and deposited to the Town Planning Authority for final approval. However, unless the Environmental Committee approved the Environmental Impact Assessment for the Golf project and the Desalination Unit, the Town Planning Authorities would not proceed with the Master Plan’s final approval.
A breakthrough came in December 2008 with the official approval of the environmental impact assessment of the golf project and its desalination unit. The final official Town Planning Approval is expected within the next months.
It has been a long and tedious procedure to obtain full licensing of the Medgolf Larnaca Golf Resort and Country Club, a delay well worth waiting for a project of this nature. Our directors and associate consultants are dedicated to this project and they are putting every effort into making this dream resort a reality in the very near future.
The Medgolf Group head offices are situated in Tersefanou and our website will be launched soon. For further inquiries please contact us at [email protected] Board of Directors, Medgolf Group of Companies.

The French managed to elevate and properly market their goat products and everything else their farmers produce. Cypriots turn their backs on farming regading it as a job for dunderheads.

Now about those discarded fridges and washing machines, has no one figure out that they contain a lot of expensive copper? Llike the English scrap dealers say "where there's shit there's brass".

Aphrodite Hills is a good example of good golf community set-up. Many countries have golf courses but few have the weather like Cyprus. While Europe is under the cover of snow & freezing temperatures, the cool winter months are perfect for golf in Cyprus. Not to mention, high season at Aphrodite Hills is during the winter months... July & August being the slowest months... too hot to play.

Winter tourism is key to success. The Caribbean thrives during the winter months... snowbirds come in from both US & Canada to enjoy nice weather... and golf. Why not Cyprus?

Be careful, some people want the island to return to the way it was without tourists bringing wealth to the country. You would need to grass over arable land to make a golf course....still, goats would eat the grass.

Aphrodite Hills did it. It can be done elsewhere. Dubai has a terrific golf resort... right in the desert!

The goats... well... we can use them to mow the grass & fertilize at the same time... saving time & money... any willing goats out there/

Georgios100

Aphrodite hills made money selling villas around the course not from the income from golf, it is just another development area.Secret valley the same..

The golf course at Aphrodite Hills is the main attraction of all the villas build there. Ocean views as well. Nothing else up there except rocks.

Try to Google "golf resort"... some 35 mil results.

Golf resorts are well tested worldwide, a very successful investment. If you are a golfer, you know what I am talking about... if not, skip to the next thread.

I predicted golf development in Cyprus 20 years ago. Most Cypriots I talked to said I was crazy... not any more, some 6-7 golf courses are build & more coming up. Even TNRC have a couple...

Paphos was and is the place for losers. Historically, Cypriots would avoid going to Paphos unless they had to. Paphos was the least developed region for as far as I can remember. It was considered "hillbilly" country... Paphites even spoke differently than the rest of Cyprus.

1974 war, forced many displaced people, especially from the Famagusta area to move there. Cheap land attracted foreign capital, hence the large Brit settlements.

All the action is happening in Limassol & Napa area. Nicosia is more business like life. If Varoshia is returned, along with it's great beach & hotels, the action would move there quickly... Paphos to be sidelined again. For you folks living in the Paphos area, let me just say, you are in the "retirement" region... bedtime 9:00 pm at the latest.

Let's turn this topic on its ear and find out who the real losers are!

You may say that Paphites are losers, but it was people like you who ran for their lives as the Turkish Army advanced towards Famagusta. That's right, people like you pissed their pants, packed as many belongings into your vehicles and left, allowing the TA to cordon off the city. So now, people like you look at the Ghost City through barbed wire!

But the Turkish Army was ruthless, killed and raped indiscriminately I hear you say! Well, were they more ruthless than the Nazis as they sweeped through Western Europe, the Balkans and towards Stalingrad? No they were not. Did the Poles, French, Greeks or Russians also abandon their towns and cities? No they did not. They remained, they resisted, and they prevailed. Would the Paphites abandon their towns? We will never know! But, Paphos was the only region that did not fall to the Coupists. Paphos was free, impregnable to the fascists, resisted alongside the President of Cyprus from 'Free Paphos'.

And this is why I respect the Karpasites. They stayed behind, and many to this very day remain enclaved in their little village. "This is where we were born, and this is where we will die" they say.

So who are the hillbillies now? The Varoshiotes, the Karpasites, or the Paphites?

You people need to seriously get over yourselves. Cyprus is a mere speck on the map. About the size of Kangaroo island as a matter of fact, or 1/7th the size of Tasmania. Cyprus doesn't have regions. You are way too small for that, since metropolitan Sydney and Melbourne just about would cover the entire area of the island. If you want to bash your fellow country men and women, labelling them as "hillbillies" then you better make certain that you Varoshiotes are capable of much more than lifting up the skirts of uninhibited and free tourists when the times were good, and then abandoning your own city and handing it over to the TA on a silver platter when faced with danger. COWARDS!

That's right sunshine! The Turkish Army did not take Varoshia. You abandoned the city and gave it to them.

So I ask you once more! Who are the hillbillies? The Paphitis, the Karpasites, or the Varoshiotes?

(To the many Varoshiotes on this forum, who might find this post hurtful, you have my sincerest apologies. To any other refugees who might be offended, I also apologise).

But sometimes, people like giorgios100 need a good kick up the backside, and also reflect and why it is he is now condemned at viewing Varosha through barbed wire.

So who are the real losers? The Paphites or the Varoshiotes?

giorgios100, if you had half a brain, you would answer the above by saying that ALL Cypriots are losers when you somehow managed to hand over control of your beloved Varoshia to the Turks!

What a loser!

What is happening to Paphos right now is the best thing it could ever happen. A general clean up! Only the best will survive and stay. The scum will move to Limassol and Nicosia where they belong. :)

They could have just put the papers on the presidential chopper before it departed for Free paphos and resistance HQ. If we were like the Varoshiotes, we would've started swimming for Crete!
