Paphos was and is the place for losers. Historically, Cypriots would avoid going to Paphos unless they had to. Paphos was the least developed region for as far as I can remember. It was considered "hillbilly" country... Paphites even spoke differently than the rest of Cyprus.

1974 war, forced many displaced people, especially from the Famagusta area to move there. Cheap land attracted foreign capital, hence the large Brit settlements.

All the action is happening in Limassol & Napa area. Nicosia is more business like life. If Varoshia is returned, along with it's great beach & hotels, the action would move there quickly... Paphos to be sidelined again. For you folks living in the Paphos area, let me just say, you are in the "retirement" region... bedtime 9:00 pm at the latest.

I agree about Limassol and Nicosia, but Napa closes for 6 months of the year. After working in that area for a number of years it is quite clear that absolutely nothing happens after the holiday season. Things might change if the area was geared up for more than just the younger generation in the summer months. Definately an area that should be promoted to a wider range of customer...unless you just want to grow potatoes and like it how it used to be. :?

Well, the holiday season makes the whole island come alive... Napa is a great place to party but, as you said (I agree) just 6-7 months of the year.

What the Napa area lacks is all year round visitors/tourists. Perhaps a couple of golf resorts could attract the upscale European visitor... in combination with the opening of Varoshia beach. 5 star establishments only is the solution plus 5 star service from well trained staff to provide hotel/golf excellence... Golfers are the preferred hotel client, with mucho dinero to spent, most of them of a more mature age, unlike the youngsters currently roaming the place.

Perhaps the city planners might consider golf activities while designing the new Varoshia from scratch...

It's not only a matter of being dirty or not having a good night life. One could argue the same thing about any town really. The problem is unemployment and how hard it is with getting a job. Try picking up a newspaper or even look online. 95% of all jobs are outside of Paphos and the ones in Paphos are very specialized.

Golfing is a world wide fad right now. How long do you think it will be a money making venture when every corner of the world has a bloody golf course?

The French managed to elevate and properly market their goat products and everything else their farmers produce. Cypriots turn their backs on farming regading it as a job for dunderheads.

Now about those discarded fridges and washing machines, has no one figure out that they contain a lot of expensive copper? Llike the English scrap dealers say "where there's shit there's brass".

Aphrodite Hills is a good example of good golf community set-up. Many countries have golf courses but few have the weather like Cyprus. While Europe is under the cover of snow & freezing temperatures, the cool winter months are perfect for golf in Cyprus. Not to mention, high season at Aphrodite Hills is during the winter months... July & August being the slowest months... too hot to play.

Winter tourism is key to success. The Caribbean thrives during the winter months... snowbirds come in from both US & Canada to enjoy nice weather... and golf. Why not Cyprus?

Be carefull, some people want the island to return to the way it was without tourists bringing wealth to the country. You would need to grass over arable land to make a golf course....still, goats would eat the grass.

Sorry, but in your opinion I should leave.

When you grew up in Surrey did they teach you about goat farming or did you learn a little bit more in life?

I didn't learn about goat farming until I decided to leave my fellow countrymen to stew in their own juice in the UK, and then many years later the bastards all decided to come here as well!

Aphrodite Hills did it. It can be done elsewhere. Dubai has a terrific golf resort... right in the desert!

The goats... well... we can use them to mow the grass & fertilize at the same time... saving time & money... any willing goats out there/

Aphrodite hills made money selling villas around the course not from the income from golf, it is just another development area.Secret valley the same..
