Erdogan and Talat have been touting for a BBF for years,palio...It was only Papa Denktas and Eroglu who were talking about TWO states...
Watch now as Eroglu too comes to the party...You know what I think the problem is...Since 1963 the GCs have been given the mushroom treatment by their successive so-called leaders (you know, kept in the dark and fed on bullshit!)...So much so that you all believe Cyprus problem began in 1974 when the "terrible Turks" decided it was a nice summer day to go invading their little helpless neighbour...Unless you are given a debriefing to bring you back to reality there will NOT be a solution...Full stop... :(

That is a beautiful analogy, cause that is exactly what has happened. There was debate on TV recently where N Kizilyurek mentioned on TV about the killing of Sandallilar etc and he was taken of air.Thats how well our roc feed their well informed electorate on bullshit. No wonder our patriots are looking like mushrooms every day.

Was that on CyBC?

Yes, N K was actually looked shocked at his treatment, cause up until that point he was seen as pro GC.

TALAT CONGRATULATES EROGLU

In a short statement after the announcement of the results, President Mehmet Ali Talat said `today, the people reflected their will to the poll`. Talat said “my dream to reach a solution is still there, but of course this is the beginning of a new era”.
Noting that the solution of the Cyprus problem is vitally important, Talat said he would be continuing to work for a settlement.

Meanwhile, President Talat has phoned Prime Minister Eroglu to congratulate him on his election.

GOVERNMENT FALLS

The General Secretary of the governing National Unity Party Irsen Kucuk has announced that the government has fallen following the election of Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu as President. Kucuk told BRT that the UBP has lost its majority within the Parliament after the election of Mr Eroglu as President.

Now, the UBP has 24 MPs in the 50 seat TRNC Parliament.

Küçük stated that the government will remain in power as a minority government with the unconditional support to be provided by the Democrat Party until the 27th of June when the local and by-elections will be held.

He noted that the formation of a coalition government will be brought to the agenda after the filling of the seat emptied by Prime Minister Eroglu.

Is there a chance that UBP and DP would merge,Halil???
I assume Serdar Denktas was promised something in exchange of supporting Eroglu...Could they go as far as that???

Sounds strange considering that other TCs have talked about these incidents freely on CyBC- like Sener Levent and Sevgul Uludag. Sener Levent also talked at some length about the TC interpretation of the Akritas Plan with no interruption.

Back to the topic. Is Eroglu going to the talks? Is he picking up where Talat left off? Or is he going to attempt to renegotiate the basic guidelines of BBF and go for something else?

So why was the broadcast stopped then?

I do not know why it was stopped, especially in view of the sympathies the Kizilyurek has in the RoC (his fellows on broadcasta address him by his first name and are chummy with him). His command of Greek is also superb, way above average even for a Greek.

Back to Eroglu and the talks- the following is from Politis paper correspondent in Istanbul:

"The director of Kibris, Resat Akar, mentioned that Eroglu must leave aside his pre election statements. "You cannot solve the Cyprus issue without concessions" Akar said, adding that Eroglu must continue the talks according to the wishes of Ankara. Akar said that any change at this stage would not benefit the TCs, Eroglu or Ankara. A similar view was expressed by public research company KADEM chief, Muharem Faiz who said that the negotiations are carried out in collaboration with a team from Ankara. Eroglu might have his objections but he cannot deviate from the positions taken by Talat in the talks."

So it looks like the talks go on and the schedule is for a conclusion by the end of this year.

My take, and this is a personal impression, not a scientifically derived conclusion, is that all Cypriots are so sick and tired of the whole situation that any solution presented will get majorities in referenda on both sides.

The post settlement situation should be interesting, in some ways the most interesting phase of Cyprus history, when our leaders, deprived of a crisis, will have to behave as the leaders of two small communities in one very small place. That should be fun to watch.
