I thought one of the uses of such a forum would be for people to gain useful information when requested, rather than just a platform to take the piss all of the time. The few people who spend most of their time slating other people on this particular forum do not help new members or help promote the site to outsiders.

No, but a basic economic brain can see that it does not attract new members to something that could be both helpfull and potentially a good platform for potential earnings.

Some people do not wish this to happen. It is in their own selfish interest to keep things within their own club.
