In Queen Victoria's time, the British Government viewed the Greek identity of Cyprus and the demand for union with Greece to be legitimate. It was the British Commissioner [Cyprus 1900] who was worried by the realisation that the Hellenic movement he witnessed during his 13 years had this legitimate right to demand Enosis with Greece. And he warned that unless "Her Majesty’s Government intend to favour the annexation of Cyprus to Greece serious trouble will sooner or later result if something is not speedily done to check what is going on."

... so what did they do to prevent losing Cyprus legitimately?

They allowed the seed of the Otto-Turks to grow and gain power over the natives!

This injustice must be reversed.

Shes as mad as a box of frogs!!! :)
If she is so concerened About Human rights perhaps she could start with those of her fellow Cypriot Women in Cyprus regarding marriage and Mortgage and their rights regarding power of attorney?
You still in Scotland O spouting from afar?
Let me know where you are, i have some VERY good friends in scotland.....
And i think you will find (if you look hard enough. or even want to) that Cyprus was offered to Greece on two occasions and rejected both times.
Being descended from Sparta you will of course deny this truth as since sparta and Athens fell out with the Peloponnese war youve never got on.
and no im not interested in your Ludicrous poll.
thank you, enjoy your tatties and neeps.

The same Sir Ronald Storrs, who before coming to Cyprus served as first British governor of Jerusalem, from 1917 to 1926, where he was thought “a witty, feline character who declared himself ‘anima naturaliter Levantina’. Unusual among mandatory officials in being an intellectual show-off, he was regarded by colleagues as being too clever by three quarters, by Arabs as a poseur who pretended to know more Arabic than he did, and by Jews as an untrustworthy hypocrite.”

So popular was he with the GCs that they burned down his Government House in 1931.

I can see why he thought they were like the Greeks!
