To be fair, circumstances conspired against him. The European Union promised to ease trade restrictions after Turkish Cypriots voted in a referendum in 2004 to accept a UN plan to reunite Cyprus - a plan that Greek Cypriots overwhelmingly rejected.

But the Republic of Cyprus, an EU member, blocked the easing of the embargo on the north.

To be fair, what have I been sayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyying?
Do not worry, it is going to be pay back time. Get ready baby.

RoC radio used to play this in 63 and 67. I though it apt to listen to it again before such a crucial day.

An increasing proportion of the population of northern Cyprus consists of mainland Turks who have settled on the island.

The settlers oppose reunification because any deal, at Greek Cypriot insistence, would involve the deportation of many of them.

and here is the core of the problem...

and under strict orders from turkey, diviating from the un parameters

His vision of a solution to the Cyprus problem is based on the creation of a confederation, with separate and loosely-linked Greek and Turkish Cypriot states.

I am pleased that the situation is to your liking. May you rejoice in the coming extinction of Turkish Cypriots, by Turkey, what?

I pray for Eroglu to win. May he then close the crossing points for the sake of all of us. Something the RoC should have done ages ago.

Then you will see the pressure upon Turkey to support these people. I wonder how long a bleeding wound would be aloowed to remain open.

Good luck boys, see you in the spring. What!

There are serious estimates that petroleum will be in serious shortage by the year 2015, knowing full well that Cyprus waters and The Aegean are filled with this precious commodity i have a feeling the greater powers that be, will end this nonsense in Cyprus.......and the Aegean....very shortly

tcs and mainly mainland turks dream of partition and think this ergul man will make it happen after 5 seconds of leadership, but once things go very wrong and he ensures the turks get nothing they will wish they never put ergulul in charge

It's a matter of nerves Palio, see who has the nerve. This election may have far more consequences. AKP may not survive, then lets see what the EU does. If nothing else it will be very interesting.
