winter heating and location question

Postby migmogs » Thu Apr 15, 2010 9:39 am

hi all

we have a winter heating and location question.if you could help

we have found a lovely villa in Pissouri Village...beautiful place.....price is right

but, we don't know Cyprus very well, and don't know this area at all

so have a couple of questions

a) is this area in the Lowlands?

b) the owner says that they have a few electric radiators to plug in...that keep the villa warm but not hot..........

well that to me sounds as if we are going to be cold.....am I right?

I can't imagine anything worse than being cold for 6 months

does this area not get cold?

for those of you that live in Cyprus or winter let like we are looking to do........how do you all heat your villa's/ apartments etc etc in the winter times?

any advice warmly accepted

cheers in advance

I live in Pissouri...

Where is the villa...?

The village is a little elevated and not on the 'lowlands' that you have mentioned before...

Chances are the villa will have no insulation whatsoever... in winter it will cool down and feel quite chilly inside...

Electric oil-filled radiators work quite well... gas heaters cause condensation and require a window to be left open so they can 'breathe' which somewhat defeats the object...

You quickly acclimatise to the heat here and winters can feel quite cold... We have gas central heating and supplement it with a gas fire (in a fireplace) but Mrs. Cyprusgrump still likes an electric blanket on the bed...

To be honest, for winter you might be better with an apartment that will be smaller and easier to heat.

thanks a million cyprusgrump

you have answered my questions brilliantly

the villa was in the village.......which looked perfect for us ........quiet souls :D

http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/cyprus/CY2341.htm

price agreed for long term let was perfect as well

but no good if it is going to be too cold..and also if it is not in the lowlands :D

your advice has been much appreciated

hi cyprusgrump

thanks for your excellent Pissouri link..the village looks perfect.small but will all that is needed :D

we have been offered another villa in Pissouri Village at even more excellent rates ........ in the Sunrise developments

this time with proper heating

my question is....that as much as the rates and the property itself looks lovely and warm for winter........is Pissouris weather going to be right for Edd with his serious lung problems?

the vendor mentioned mists that come up as high as his 1st floor balcolney? is that going to be the "norm" for winter.or do they clear with the morning sun?

as damp fog mists with edd's damaged lungs wouldn't be good

arghhhhh

wish we lived there so that we didn't need to ask all of these questions

that are so important

I noticed from your brilliant informative link....... that it covered lots of "windy" weather...is this also something that we need to be thinking of?

again edd's breathing issues........lots of windy weather is not good

is it as windy down at Pissouri beach?

or is it is so windy because Pissouri is elevated?

sorry for all of these questions

buying into the unknown when we have got health issues is proving to be a nightmare

cheers

Well, I'm not medically trained I'm afraid...

Sunrise is a nice development - very close to the village square.

However, be aware that the village practically closes down over winter and few of the tavernas and bars will be open...

It can be breezy, it can be misty... what can I say...? Nobody can guarantee what the weather will be like next winter... we've got sunburnt on Xmas day before....

Suffice to say it is likely to be warmer than the UK...

Migmogs although you would like a village you maybe better off in lowland town , no frost ,no mist, and probally with heating ,considering this move is about health..

thanks to you both for your quick replies

and yes

we are going over for health reasons...and they take priority......over where......at all times

not knowing cyprus very well...we have been to Paphos before
but no-where else

we have no idea as to which towns etc etc to be looking at

hence all of my seemingly mundane questions

do you mean paphos.......larnaca and limmasol by lowland towns.......

I know i probably sound thick to you asking such mundane questions

but there could be some lowlands ...........inland as well that we are completely unaware of

please bear with me on this one till I get my head round the lowlands........highlands bit

cheers
