thanks for your excellent Pissouri link..the village looks perfect.small but will all that is needed :D

we have been offered another villa in Pissouri Village at even more excellent rates ........ in the Sunrise developments

this time with proper heating

my question is....that as much as the rates and the property itself looks lovely and warm for winter........is Pissouris weather going to be right for Edd with his serious lung problems?

the vendor mentioned mists that come up as high as his 1st floor balcolney? is that going to be the "norm" for winter.or do they clear with the morning sun?

as damp fog mists with edd's damaged lungs wouldn't be good

arghhhhh

wish we lived there so that we didn't need to ask all of these questions

that are so important

I noticed from your brilliant informative link....... that it covered lots of "windy" weather...is this also something that we need to be thinking of?

again edd's breathing issues........lots of windy weather is not good

is it as windy down at Pissouri beach?

or is it is so windy because Pissouri is elevated?

sorry for all of these questions

buying into the unknown when we have got health issues is proving to be a nightmare

cheers

migmogs

I have chronic asthma but have never been affected in Cyprus despite the varied climate and elevations. I don't know if there's anything in that or whether it's just me, but you never know. Maybe worth checking the nearest health clinic or district nurse to where you're headed.

We had some days recently where the dust level in the air was VERY high. Not good at all for asthma sufferers.

I'm usually quite warm enough in my apartment in winter but when I've stayed in a spacious house I felt REALLY cold! Especially if they had very high ceilings and huge rooms.

I've been shivering at Xmas time and also been outside soaking up the sun at Xmas time!

once again

brilliant replies

cheers

great forum :D

dust would kill edd......to be sure..we have just cancelled winter in Fuertoventura because they get dreadful dust storms from Africa

so I can understand why the dust afected you

what causes the dust storms?

I have been advised that if we go uphill slightly to a more elevated place that we will miss both the mists and the dust storms

so where to go?

cheers on the size of the rooms etc etc and the heating issues.which are important for winter

as that also is now going to be a big consideration

size in this case......doesn't pay off

so I am thinking more of small compact....even middle townhouse?

how insulated are the apartment from noise?

as we are used to living in a detached and not used to any neighbour noise at all

hoping that the walls etc etc are thick enough to block out most of the neighbours noise   :D

cheers

Here's a recent article re the high dust levels this February. And I seem to recall it being reported in winter 2008 that the dust levels were at a record high.

I am surprised no one has mentioned tornados and torrential flooding rain! We've had both of those this winter!

hi gasman

1-2 dust storms a year is ok..just stay indoors till gone

aslo read up on the rain....

but also in context

not all of the time

so we can stay indoors for these infrequent times

although it sounds as if the rain and hail caused quite a bit of havoc out there for everyone

home in the uk

we are all grounded with no flights

as we await the arival of the dust cloud fro the eruption in Iceland

allready over the shetlands and moving down

at least 1 more day with no planes flying

and if tomorrow is hazy

spect we will be staying doors to save breathing it all in  :D

have a great day all

Unless you get a detached house you will get noise from other owners as all the homes in Cyprus are single skin and certainly not soundproofed so look for a detached and non complex as holiday makers can be very noisy and don't think about people who live there all year round.

You will have to 'suck it and see' migmogs! What suits one person will not necessarily suit another. I would rather sleep rough than live 'on a small residential estate' lol!

Good luck with it and I hope next winter is a mild and relatively uneventful one weatherwise.

As for the paper thin walls and total lack of any soundproofing. That is certainly true of a lot of modern apartments. I've been in some where you can hear not just booster pumps on the roof, loud TV, Music and shouting, but clearly hear them converse, switch lights on and off, fill the kettle and stir their coffee!

I find the summer much noisier than the winter as doors and windows are open more and cats and dogs seem to howl and bark more and the bins are emptied more frequently (they do this in the middle of the night every 2 or 3 days).

Noise doesn't bother me much but I've never lived anywhere noisier than the big towns in Cyprus.

You soon get used to the supersonic noise of big racing motorbikes and incredibly loud car stereos!

hi gasman

thought Tala was a small village and not a large town?

we are really quiet people....enjoy a laugh... enjoy each others company....and going for a meal...but not much more these days

most edd will want to do......is catch up with the Rugby in a bar

so a quiet residential area will suit us fine

morning coffee in the square

meander to the local bakers etc etc

getting to know our neighbours along the way

we would hate a load of partying folks all around us

where not going on hols.....we are going to live there for 6 months, whilst edd hopefully recoups.... which is deferent

all we are looking for now is for some well wanted and needed

R&R

with a few G&T's thrown in of course

looking down from that lovely verandah

lets hope this is what is in store in Tala

if it's an awful area

please tell me now

as we have been led to believe that it's a lovely , quiet, little area

cheers for everyones help :D
