Prepare to swallow your pride and form an orderly queue.

Surely the 20 euro compulsory insurance without which you are not permitted to cross more than cancels out any price advantage.

Depends how often you cross and how much petrol you buy. How long does the insurance last for?

Three days, I believe. You can make multiple entries/exits in that time.

It has been 25 euro for the one month minimum for private vehicles.

The annual ins fee has gone up quite a lot in the last couple of years (noticeably since we changed to the euro of course). I now intend to insure a month at a time when needed. Should work out cheaper than the 150 euros I paid last time and the 187 I was quoted when it ran out - tho' it seems to depend on who sells it to you!

Obviously it would not make sense to insure just to fill up with fuel.

Most shopping in the North is now cheaper, for ex-pats, given the exchange rate and if you buy UK brands. Cross over with a bone-dry tank and stock up with Heinz beans and Kellogs before you go back.

No, I think it costs more if you want one month. It is a rip off really, considering that you only get third party cover.

It costs the same for us to drive in the South - 25 Euros a month for a small car. Guess we are all being ripped-off. :(
