Did the Turkish invaders destroy the occupied title deeds ?

Postby Halvakaimeli » Wed Apr 14, 2010 4:33 pm

Does anyone know if the Turkish invaders of cyprus destroyed the land registry offices for Famagusta and Kyrenia and what happened to the title deeds etc ?. If they were not destroyed who is protecting/guarding them. The Turks ? The UN ? And are they allowing Greek Cypriots title holders to obtain their titles ? Could they be selling them to scumbags ?

I am sorry to make two related posts on this subject but am all fired up and have never found a similar thread on any Cyprus forum. It seems that everyone else escaped with their title deeds. My late father left them with a law firm in T occupied Cyprus and they were left in a safe that was probably ransacked by the invading Turkish army.

Two years ago when I visited Kyrenia, I asked the same question. I was told that the northern admin took everything over. Whether documents and title deeds were destroyed I dont think so, but if they were I wouldnt be surprised. Someone told me the Land registry in Nicosia (RoC) keeps the deeds and registers. I hope that is true, which is good news for the GC refugees.

If you are GC, then you could find out.

Hi, I have a house in Kyrenia and I had to go to the Kyrenia District Officer and RoC Land Registry in Nicosia to get a legal title. I bought it from a Turkish Cypriot whose father owned it before 1974. However, in order to buy the place and have the sale notarised I had to first go through the TC Land Registry (Tapu) in Kyrenia. I got my TC agent to do a search of my property to check ownership and the names on the document went back to the 1950s. So the Turks would appear to have seized the office intact with the records. This would tie in with what the RoC Land Registry said, although I think they have some centralised master copies. Nothing was computerised then, obviously.

Hope this helps. PM me if your family place is in Kyrenia district and I'll see if anyone can help.

The scummy turks hold all the records.

The Famagusta land registry in Larnaca is creating a new register. All those who had land in the occupied areas need to go an declare they property.

Reply Title deeds

Hi,
The title deeds which were registered in the Famagusta Land registry office where moved and re-filed at the Larnaca Land Registry office, certain title deeds if not all of the title deeds which were in the Famagusta Land Registry Office. I was just there awhile ago and picked up copies from the Larnaca Land Registry Office, we (me and my family) decided to hire attorney Mr. Achellias Demetriades (I am sure you heard of him) to submit our claim vs. Turkey to the ECHR the case was admitted, submitted, and given an index number to be heard, but due to the recent ECHR decision that the Immovable Property Committee (now under the administration of Ankara rather than the TRNC) has become legal the claim is being diverted to the IPC for a settlement Mr. Demetriades is handling the matters.
Contact the other Land Registry Office for a copy, they have been refiled and computerized into the system (start with the Land Registry Office in Larnaca).
I hope the information is helpful.... Alex C. Alexandrou

Alex, I think you may be mistaen. Just becuse you picked up a copy in the Larnaca office does not mean the deeds are there.

Each district has its own office to handle is own affairs. It is possible that the person doing the deeds on your trip was not available and so the Larnaca office did it. These are computerised records and can be printed anywhere. the paper issue to you is just a copy of the contents of the register and NOT the actual deed. Since you can get multiple copies if you so wanted.

For the district that your land is in, visit the appropriate office for attention.

good luck with your case and may the turks burn in hell.
